Company monitoring

Does your company monitor your activity (how long you're working, making sure you're logged in, etc)? New company I started at is doing this and checks in far too often. I'm used to quite a bit of flexibility. As long as I hit numbers it didn't matter what I did.

Oh hell no. There's gotta be trust.

In Ontario they passed a law recently that any monitoring has top be disclosed, which I think is a positive move.

Yeah I had to ask about it once I got checked up on one too many times.

I'm sure they do. They can and will if you have company issued equipment. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Slightly pathetic in my opinion. I had less oversight in the military than I do for this small company

Exactly. Company-issued equipment gives them the right, and yes, it is slightly pathetic.

I would definitely think they do especially if you use a VPN.

As @jefe said it looks like theyโ€™ve passed a new law on this so at the very least they have to let you know but I know companies that goes to the extremes to track productivity

Assume that they can and behave accordingly. I donโ€™t believe my company does, however.

Only if there is a reason or indicators of people slacking off. KPIs can tell a lot if the sales aren't coming in.

Not that I know of haha I don't have anyone constantly checking in on me so I would say no. There's no reason for constant check ins if you're hitting all your numbers. We also keep our calendars fully up to date with meetings, appointments, and other time blocks so this helps with letting managers know where we are and what we're doing

Lol fuck no. You're gonna end pissing off the people brining in revenue, which isn't good for anyone.

Let me guess...they don't trust you at all to do what you're supposed to do and get the job done, but they expect you to trust them. Comp plan doesn't look good? Trust us. Quotas look unattainable? Trust us. Product isn't working? Trust us. Service is poor? Trust us.

Hopefully you can find another employer who understands that trust is a two-way street and doesn't micromanage you like a child.

A lack of trust means lower performance as a whole.

A crucible to stress reps with the goal of performing just makes more stressed reps, which means lower performance overall from what I've seen

I had a manager who was constantly looking at our activity and as soon as my Team icon would turn yellow I could expect a call from him "casually" asking how my day was

He was already a micro-manager pre-covid, so once 2020 hit he was even worse.
Started a new job and from first impression, they seem much more flexible on it, as long as the numbers are there

I sure they can, but the company I work at doesn't. Check-ins would be super creepy. Zero trust.

It's very creepy. I got a camera cover and a mouse mover. This just creeps me out. Feels like I'm watched in my own home.
