Compensation PSA

Hello savages,

As most of us are starting Q4 or approaching the end of it already, there is one super important thing I wanted to make sure we all remembered as new quotas and compensation plans roll out. We have NEVER had more leverage as a result of market conditions to negotiate for raises, title changes, increased commission %, RSUs and options, etc.

DO NOT be passive when it comes to negotiating compensation at your internal compensation. Get your money.

Agreed, all comp plans look great on paper but before you agree to anything take the new comp plan and run a simulation if the new plan was in place this past year.ย  Would you make more or less than what you have made currently this year?

24k without leaving? Tell me more. What am I missing? Or is this industry specific to SaaS/ technology?

I hit goal for a year straight and the negotiation was my boss calling me and telling me I got a bump in my base. It is in insurance sales.

Oh damn I am leaving so much money on the table. I sling industrial ingredients and have never asked for more than 10k without switching companies and I hit quota every quarter. Thanks for input

How exactly are you negotiating raises and such? I basically get a piece of paper that says here is your plan sign it by Friday.

Start the process ahead of time. Explain your arguments on why you should get a raise including โ€œhey, new people coming over get X,โ€ and allude to (but donโ€™t state it plainly) how hot the market is right now. Point to quota increases since youโ€™ve started and that you expect adjustments your salary and OTE.

If given the option to choose between options and RSUs, you should carefully consider: tax implications, cashflow needs, cashflow restrictions, probable time with that company, and other factors.ย

If there are large numbers involved, it would behoove you to consult a licensed financial advisor/wealth manager before locking yourself in to a benefits arrangement.ย

I've seen otherwise very intelligent and successful people make big mistakes in this situation because they watched a bunch of utoobz and read up on WSB, or something. Google does not give a shit about you, nor does google understand your goals and needs.
