Conference Job Offers

So I think we have all been there as sales people. You attend a conference hit it off with some other vendor, which leads to jokes about a job offer or working together.

I am mulling over a formal offer from someone I met last week at my first conference in 2 years. Has anyone else bagged a job offer from a conference? I’ve tried to recruit sales people from events but never really successfully.

Have you been offered a job from a trade show?

This happened to me at my first Dreamforce, and it was a competitor. We were too poor to have a booth, but I was still nabbing meetings with other vendors and the VP heard me pitching their neighbor and came over and told me I'd have a job with them next month if I wanted. 23-year-old PBC was a "company is family" DB and decided he'd have to stay instead of taking what was likely a lucrative role that turned out to IPO 2 years later.

Conferences are great for getting in front of the leadership teams of companies you want to work for, but you don't have the filter of a shitty talent acquisition team denying you for not putting "SaaS expert" on your skills on your resume.

If they offer more money, take the job! That rule applies conference or not conference.

The base is same ballpark. The fake money (options) are better. Just need to decide if their product is good or smoke and mirrors. Researching with some mutual targets.

They call me Daddy, Sales Daddy
Not at the conference itself but through a contact I made at a conference.

In my experience, trade shows are trash for generating legit leads. I go to network with my current prospects, drop in on prospects that have gone radio silent (bring breakfast to the office, etc...) and to network with other reps in case shit goes south at my current company.
