Conflicted about a sales influencer on LI

there's this guy, Kyle Asay — a lot of the content he posts is very good. to the point where I think, "Oh, shit, this guy really knows what he's talking about."

but then

I see he's in an engagement pod with the wretched Julia Carter and I think, by proxy, he simply cannot be good

what do I do? how do I reconcile these ideals? it's what I imagine it's like when you uncover cognitive dissonance about eating meat and befriending a cow

One is a VP at a legit company and one is a SlayE....

I don't know what an engagement pod is, but differentiating between the value each bring should be pretty easy.

Kyle works for a well renowned technology firm selling super complex technical solutions with a track record of performance.

The other is an AE who thinks she’s funny and posts about her experience.

Them speaking/engaging with each other doesn’t make one credible or the other not credible.

The world isn’t black and white my friend.

Bingo. My social media connections are a wild range from hippie to conservative. Doesn't mean I agree with each person all the time. Or even ever. But life is more fun with a little variety.

Very true.

Also, he might just be affiliating with her to get those Gen-Z eyeballs that lap her shit up. And those who get caught up in her profile pic...

He seems to know his stuff.
But he beats the same joke to death everytime he pops up on my timeline, something to the tune of "I make sure my team hits their number by asking for pipeline updates 15 times a day and refreshing salesforce dashboards" I feel like I've seen him make this joke about 50 times in the last few months.

Same. I wish at his age I was that focused on the sales game. I was too busy banging the expense account with Financial sector clients making $$$ before damn dot.com spoilt the party.

Something has struck me as fishy with Kyle.

He talks about how he built out a killer SDR program that has been used for 10 years by qualtrics, but he was only an SDR there for 4 months. And it was his first job out of college.

His LI has him at Qualtrics for a long time, but he was only in each role for roughly a year. I've never seen a tech sales manager get promoted to Director after only 12 months in the seat.

Things don't really add up imo. If I learned that he's the nephew of some Mongo C-level exec, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised.

Tbh I never liked the fact that his LI byline says he’s a VP but he’s actually an RVP.

I know I’m splitting hairs here but it rubs me the wrong way. I don’t like false status signaling. It’s cringey and misleading

I bought his course and got a refund on it. It’s part of a shitty sales funnel. Wouldn’t recommend it. The content is mediocre TBH.

Really, I found the material on AI Chat prompts to be worth the $150 it cost me.

Maybe you’re wrong about both of them?

Listening to that pod could have you drinking a new flavor of KoolAid an hour later.

Think about it this way. If Obama went on the Tucker Carlson show and you were a fan of 1 of them. Would you stop believing in that person simply because they went on the show?

Oil and water don’t mix, but when you shake them up together it’s pretty interesting for a period of time, and then they go back to being separated.

Kyle's one of the few in that engagement pod worth listening to. the rest are just there (aka Julia) to make it seem like they provide any value, which in turn they don't.

Oh he has a podcast? I am often looking at his youtube channel. This is a spot on one - Structure a perfect day for an AE. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2DyVSz96tU

their whole plan is just to attract eyeballs. that's why they have an "engagement pod". they are selling themselves, sounds like you're buying it.

I think that you have to consider the audience people are trying to reach. I'm sure there are people who don't like Corp Bro(Love this guy and anyone who says otherwise can choke on a fat one) but he gets recruited for the audience and to reach wider channels. You don't have to like or dislike someone to work with them. If it makes sense there really just needs to be some sort of benefit you are trying to get towards.

So since Temu is owned by China I shouldn’t buy cheap electronics off it?? It’s kinda the same thing.

The slayE hitched herself to some guy. Oh well.

It's all an echo chamber. I'm convinced nobody in the world has more confidence than a man with a monosyllabic name who made presidents club. This is how I imagine all the linkedinfluencers when they're tagging each other in posts. 🤢 I actually like Julia, she doesn't care about joining in on the LI circle j*rk IMO.

Sorry for being slow, but what is a "SlayE."
I also follow Kyle and I generally like his content. He can get a bit repetitive l, but I like his sales philosophy/methodology. I must admit, he seemed to come out of nowhere!

Seems smart – tenured VP at MongoDB. Probably been there, done that type experience.
Probably more to him than what's on LI. Some of his jokes are annoying, but that's life.
