Craziest sign off I've ever had (Earthquake)

I don't know if I'll ever top this one.

Was in the middle of a kickoff call with a new client that I closed last week. Everything going smoothly nothing out of the ordinary when all of a sudden I feel dizzy, like the room is moving. So, I sit up a little bit, take a deep breath and realize the room literally is moving, a lot.

Earthquake.

So naturally I inturrupt our CSM in the middle of her speech with, "hey guys, I'm sorry but I have to go. We're having an earthquake. Please continue without me." Word for word no shit exactly what I said.

Didn't realize I sounded like a boss until I get the slack notification that our CSM announced to the whole company that I was actively in the middle of an earthquake and sounded calmer than if I was excusing myself to use the bathroom.

7.6 earthquake. Lost power for a bit but I'm back up and running. It was actually kind of ... totally had another small one and had to leave my house again in the middle of posting this... actually kind of cool, feels like walking on a boat with some decent waves under you.

Nothing to that magnitude, that's for sure. Mine was just simply "My wife is about to go to the hospital, I need to go" Then 12 hours later, my second son was born.

Thanks! Yeah it didn't feel too small. My place is fine but I guess there's quite a bit of damage elsewhere. My phone is going nuts with people sending pics and vids of resorts that got it pretty rough.

The second little bit wasn't as bad as the first. I wasn't entirely sure if I was just imagining things until I noticed my ceiling fan swinging.

Yes ma'am, I didn't know this until my wife said something but apparently there's an earthquake somewhere in Mexico on Sep 19 every year

Welp, compared to your story I'm going to sound like a big ol wimp in mine. Was on an internal meeting last week & stopped mid sentence because I saw a huuuuge spider at the other end of my office. I told them I'd be right back because I had to kill said spider but didn't rejoin the meeting for like 10 minutes because I couldn't catch the damn thing lol

Hahaha I've had something similar but it was, "I need to go kill a spider for my wife" She's petrified of spiders.

Puerto Vallarta. I don't think we've ever had an earthquake this bad before. As I look on social media I'm realizing how good I had it that all we lost was power. There's a decent amount of condos falling apart around the bay

7.6 is large. Very large. The biggest one I've been through is the 1989 Loma Prieta, and that was a 7.1.

Nothing crazy at all, if not embarrassing for me.

Probably having 5 missed calls, hop off thinking itโ€™s an emergency, but someone in my family that just wanted to say hi

7.6 is a solid quake!

I had that happen to a prospect in LA. We were chatting, he got pretty quiet, then blurted out, sorry, I'm getting under my desk, we're having an earthquake. He sounded rattled (pun intended).

My personal story was that I was on the phone with a prospect, looking out over my back yard, saw branches on an oak toward the back of the property start shuddering, first thought it was wind or a squirrel jumping around, but no, the tree was falling! No damage, but I explained to the prospect why I suddenly was quiet, and since our conversation was wrapping up anyway, I had to jump.

I haven't had an earthquake experience like this. I have however been on the phone with a prospect when they actually asked me about the tornado sirens going off in my background. I told them I looked outside and didn't see it so we were good to continue. ๐Ÿคฃ

Yeah it felt solid! There is a condo like 2 blocks from my house. You could see the water from the pool on the roof sloshing off the side of the building. That building is now leading slightly to the east.

Yeahโ€ฆ 7.6 is a serious quake. Good on you for managing it and not freaking out. My first quake was a 6.6 on the 4th floor of a building in New Taipei City. Great memory. I literally ran into the streets like a child and the old ladies laughed at me. I was advised to stay under the supports when itโ€™s all big buildings so the top doesnโ€™t hit you with crumbles.

Nothing too crazy on my end, just fire alarm during a demo so I unplugged my laptop and walked into the copy/prayer room and kept going until they stopped.

@SaaSamI will say that is badass.

Nothing as wild as that, did have a tornado drop down about 1.5 miles from my office but wasnโ€™t on a call or anything. I just hopped in my truck and drove my ass in the other direction until we got the all clear. Tornado never even came close and was actually moving away from us but still.

I once had to sign off from an intro call because the building was on fire. Wasn't even a bs fire, I had to walk through black smoke in the staircase. Luckily I was on the 1st floor.

I was once in a meeting on the 8th floor of a building in Toronto. 20 minutes in, the fire alarm goes off.

Typically we ignore such things as a drill and continue our meeting. Then one of the Exec's EA's steps in, looking a bit frazzled, and says it's not a drill and we need to get out now.

Queue 8 stories of stairs headed down as firefighters are rushing up past you.

Yeah, we rescheduled for tomorrow after that and went and got beers.
