I just moved from SFDC to a series B start up 4 months ago. ENT, 12-30 month cycles, 500-1M ACV average deal size. For what I want in my life, it has proven to be a great move so far.

Def pros cons, but my comp is astronomically more (over 125K added on with more likely to follow, everyone was 100%+ quota this year and company is currently 130% to goal end of August) and the niche Iโ€™m selling to is severely underserved (everything is 20+ year legacy, shelved acquisitions or custom-built).

Overall, for me in my scenario, totally worth it but like anything, there are pros and consโ€ฆIt really depends on the overall scenario though. High risk high rewardโ€ฆ just vet any startup carefully. Look at market fit, competitors, TAM, etcโ€ฆ A lot of start ups can be dumpster fires, and like any sales job, you never really know how the company is until youโ€™re a few months in. Iโ€™ve made a few bad moves in my career, this is my first one to a start up that is going good lol.

SFDC can be hit or miss, but thatโ€™s a great logo on your resume!

Agreed. The many titles confuse me though.

How about some more detail about the offer at hand?

Details about the crazy benefits, for example would help with your specific situation.

Otherwise, this kind of has been discussed to death if you want more general opinions. If you're on your laptop, use the search to find discussions about start ups.

We need WAAAY more context to even approach being helpful here.

Also, try the search bar - it's been talked about at least once or twice...

i have no idea how your title and content are connected.

do you want to know what crazy benefits start ups give?
do you just want to know about what its like at a start up?

if so, please be specific on what you want to know. no one wants to read a fucking novel of a response to know everything.

It's not a favorite here. But give us some details as to why it might be a good idea.

If you are secure enough for the risk and thrive on the ambiguity of it, go for it. Iโ€™m that kind of person and looking to get into a ground floor again. If I get the right one and hit 2/2 Iโ€™ll retire by 50. It might also implodeโ€ฆ Either way, Iโ€™ll be ok.

Depends on where you at with your career and life. Can you afford a High Risk/High Reward situation? Can you afford to be laid off in 2-12 months if/when the product doesn't sell?

I have the same clarifying questions as above. Iโ€™m living this right now, and letโ€™s just say things have changed since the first quarter.

I currently work for one. Lots of building, tinkering, and the velocity is neck-breaking at times. However, I love it. I previously worked for a Fortune 100 massive company and they moved at a glacial pace. I had great job security but I couldn't deal with the endlessly redundant day-to-day.

My advice is to do the research... speak with current employees and read the Bravado link about transitioning from a large company to a start-up.

After working at a few, I personally wouldnt recommend it. You really have to get lucky that there's product/market fit and enough resources to make it work. It's hard work, and in most cases the equity won't make it worth it

I think you have to do it at least once to see if you like it. ALSO, it makes you way more versatile in conversations when networking.
