Creating a Demo for an Interview

So I am interviewing for Account Executive positions and this is my first time interviewing for another AE spot. So its my first time doing interviews for AE stuff and two of the companies I'm looking into are asking me to schedule and do a Demo role play with them. That Demo being of their product.

For more context I've worked my way up to where I am now at this company and didn't do a demo role play to get here. I have ran a ton of demos before with clients and stuff just not in the interview process on a product I'm not super knowledgeable about.

How do you prepare for interviews like that? Any advice on how to run and prepare for that Demo?

I've had to do this a few times. Here is my process.

Cover What - bring in cool info about the product.

Cover Why - Talk about why so many in the industry are using it.

Cover Who - Talk about who in the industry is using it.

Cover How - Demo of how they will use it.

Is this in any particular order? I always like to focus on the "Why" as the bulk of any presentation or demo, obviously tailored to the prospect.

Just do a lot of research on the company, their offerings and do a demo just like you regularly would but just in their terms.

Understand what their key offering is. Read their customer stories or case studies. Reverse engineer that shit and focus on those problems they believe they solve the best.

Ask if you can demo what you're selling now.

Not a bad idea, although stepping out of your comfort zone might be seen as a plus...

It's a fool's errand for someone who knows nothing about a product to pitch it to a room of people who sell it 24/7. Why not pitch something you know and they don't to see if you can effectively hold attention, identify pain, explain the business impact, etc.

Try and tailor the demo to them. Ask them about their needs, challenges. Ask them what an ideal world would look like (in this business context). Then focus on showing them how the product solves those challenges and brings them closer to the ideal world.

Keep the demo engaging. Ask them questions, use the demo as a tool to have a conversation, not a show and tell device.

Try YouTube, the company website, or the internet to see if there are any pre-recorded product demos.

GOOD LUCK!
