My money's on ETH for transactions and BTC as a store of wealth (like gold).

hard to keep up right now.ย  You're probably right, it'll settle with time.ย  Crazy how mainstream it's become.ย  When I worked at Citi, the CEO at the time made it clear that they'd never get involved with crypto.ย  He's since retired.ย  I wonder if the new boss will maintain that same mentality.

Idk about that, there are a lot of people that have been working with crypto since the beginning and i doubt they are part of it. It'd be a crazy conspiracy theory tho, i wanna hear more.

I've been high on crypto for a long time as a new direction for finance, but right now it does seem like there's a lot of "weekend warriors". This isn't a bad thing on it's own, but that is where a lot of vocal people are right now.ย 

I think it is important that all new things have a base of people that support it with varying levels of engagement and investment, but usually you'll see those two things go up and down together. Someone with a ton of skin in the game is more engaged, tends to knows more, and spends a lot more time staying up to date. It doesn't feel that way with crypto like it does with more traditional financial tools.

It probably comes down to the "democratization of finance" that a lot of crypto tech touts, but just like with all things, if there's big money to be made then big business will show up with their massive pockets and payroll.

I think crypto is going to be the future of finance operates moving forward, but I also expect that it will very quickly be run in a similar way (possibly by the same exact people) that run the rest of our financial institutions.ย

Exactly. They will be running things on blockchains and using the technology developed during this time, but in the end they are going to make sure that all roads lead back to them.ย 

I'm guessing they view all of this as a nice beta test for which technology can actually handle their needs.

Well, the initial adopters of Bitcoin were definitely nerds. I don't use that term insultingly, but I first found out about it as I had a friend in high level IT building computers to mine for it. Nerds are more likely to be participating in internet culture. I think that's why it's so meme-y.

The difference is that in crypto (if you play it well) you have monetary gains. And every can relate to money. Whereas not everyone cares about cross fit gains or karmic footprint. Eventually everyone will be into crypto because everyone's gotta pay bills. It will also be more stable over time - I see bitcoin becoming the new gold and other coins being similar to stocks.

You could say that. There aren't any big BTC plays to be made other than hold (there are big plays in other coins but it's a lot of work to track the charts) but I think it will become the standard.
