Cultural differences

How you doin Cowboys?

I want to get some opinions and experiences selling, working with different cultures.

Past few weeks I encounter a lot of people from India and I noticed some major differences. One of them is that they really like to say YES. You don't even need to push to get that YES, but I also noticed that YES in India has a bit of a different meaning than YES in Germany, UK or even USA.

They often say YES but after you finish the conversation they disappear for ages, comes back again says YES again and disappears again. I find much easier to work with US or EU, usually if they say YES it means they want to proceed or otherwise they will just tell you to f*** off.

Have any of you encounter similar cases or have different experiences to share about certain countries or regions?

If there is any people from India here, I ment no offence. I love you all and your culture has a lot of amazing things to offer. Just maybe not in sales biz haha.. Again, no offence.

It's so true, part of their culture is to be overly nice to your face and view it as non confrontational when really it just causes more issues.

I've found this with a few cultures as well - so frustrating.

It's bad enough when people avoid you just to avoid saying 'no', but getting a 'yes' when it's not real is SO MUCH worse.

In my experience, Americans tend to be the most blunt. Canadians want to avoid the tough conversation and letting you down, but at least don't do this (for the most part)

I'd rather get a no than a yes that isn't really a yes.

Absolutely. No is the next best thing to a yes - gotta protect our time.

Having worked with many folks from India as well as people from the UK, Asia, LatAm and all over the US, there are many similarities and many differences. In the US we tend to be direct while other cultures are more subdued with innuendos, etc. Indians tend to be people pleasers on the surface but will ghost you in order to avoid bad news. And there's everything in between.
I just try to be genuine and direct which seems fairly universal.
