Deal Superstitions

Hey Fam - Sales is like sports and in sports you have athletes with ridiculous superstitions.


For me, I played baseball and on gamedays had to put my pants / sock on a certain way otherwise I had to restart. At the plate, I had a specific routine for stepping into the box, I can still mimic it to this day if I want to.


This hasn't translated into my sales career much other than pacing a lot when I dial (not really a superstition I know). Curious if some of you other savages do anything weird to get the juices flowing and sales Gods on your side.

I keep a photo of my Lord and Saviour, Dan Price in a tiny locket that I wear around my neck. Every day at 7 am and 7 pm I give it a kiss, light 70k on fire while wearing 7 For All Mankind jeans, and flip my hair back and forth 7.7 times.

20 years in sales and I still will wait a day or two AFTER I get the PO to mark it as โ€œclosed wonโ€.

My brain says that if I mark it won too soon, it will get cancelled.

Has driven every manager I have had crazy - including my current.

This is based off of a few painful experiences when I was just starting out where deals were stopped because the competition paid the right person (this is pre-financial crisis where deals were different before 2008)
