Deals from Supplier Registration - Ariba, supplierone.co, etc.

Hey y'all!

This is sort of a niche question, but I thought I'd throw it out there -- anyone have luck chasing deals out of large company's supplier portal? i.e ariba, supplierone, stars, etc?

For context - I sell for a small consulting firm where we are very successful in mid-market. I've been trying to break into bigger players, but have been told a couple of times that they will only select vendors/suppliers out of their supplier portal and will not talk otherwise.

that feels like a total brush off, but thought I'd see if there's any thoughts out there...

Most companies I work with only do business with โ€œapproved vendorsโ€ and you have to find a sponsor to onboard you into their vendor list.ย

Ok so ask/research how to get added into their supplier portal ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

Probably not a complete brush off but a good excuse for them to ditch you.ย  I do run into this and you have to get someone with some buying authority to get you into that system and work for you to be a vendor. It can be a long process but generally pays off.ย ย

Pretty much all large companies use this strategy to minimize the number of suppliers which is sort of counter intuitive because a lot of the time they don't get the benefit of more focused suppliers. The only way that I have found to get round this (and it works for me) is to find a sponsor, someone who understands your value proposition, and use them to leverage you onto the portal. When I say it worked for me I mean it works. End of last year we were put on the system by a massive global (Chicago based) clientย  who got what we were all about and wanted "some of that". It's not easy but when you're in its well worth the effort.
