Demo request prospecting

I'm curious if anybody else is experiencing this?

I'm in the SaaS space and lately I'm getting more and more people requesting demos which turns out to be BDRs trying to get leads.

This has happened in the past, but it seems to be increase in number and I was just wondering if anybody else is seeing the same (annoying) trend?

I'm not sure I understand, but is this right?: Your inbound demo requests are from BDRs, from other companies, and they don't really want a demo, they are using that request to connect and then use that to sell to you.

If so, blech. That's really bad.

Ridiculous! I wonder which brilliant sales ops person thinks this will result in any positive gains. It's bad enough that I get constant spam and outreach for lead lists and tech for my company (that I ignore). I'd be hard pressed to be polite, tbh.

Probably. This would tempt me to wish I was an evil genius who would write an autoresponder that would feign just enough interest to keep these BDRs actively pursuing you. Basically wasting their time, with no need for action from you.

I do my own qualification which I prefer. Also, these companies could actually be good prospects for us and it is only when I review it turns out to BS.

Usually I just ignore them once I realize their game but the last one kept bugging me, so I told him to leave me alone and go sign up for the WR to learn some better tactics.

A BDR from another company reaches out to your company to request a demo. You respond, thinking its a genuine lead, and at some point in the conversation they turn it on you saying they are not interested but then ask you if you want to buy their product? WTF?

Ew, what? That's awful. I've definitely been on calls that were supposed to be 1:1 networking and gotten sold to. But this is a whole new level.

I’ve had something similar where it’s BDRs reaching out to my BDRs asking for some sort of quid pro quo like I’ll get you a meeting with the point of contact at my company if you get me a meeting with someone at yours. Not sure how I feel about it.
