Detox from Commission Being Your Motivator?

I recently switched to a Partner Manager role at a different company after 10 years as an IC. While I still have a number to hit, it revolves more around top of funnel than the closing roles I've been used to for so long.

I'm about 6 weeks in and I find myself agonizing at times about my standing with the job because I'm not getting that dopamine hit from closing a deal that tells me I'm good at what I do. Anyone else deal with this and how long did it take you to shake it off? I feel like an addict that's had his hookup taken away.

All of my feedback has been positive from the org and co-workers, it's just that mental hurdle.

Partner Manager
Good question. I was with a company of about 4,500 people that had gotten too long and bloated in career advancement. I wanted to find a role that kept me in the sales arena, and allowed me to manage others (which I will hire for and do in this role.)ย

My previous company had me on the management track but it had been going on over 2 years where they weren't promoting internally because they kept losing too many IC's (to churn) to keep up with the quota demands. I got sick of "you're going to be such a great manager someday but we can't afford to lose your quota production until we have enough others at your level." Once I put in my notice they suddenly put all these offers on the table but I told him it was too late.
