Did everyone enjoy being robbed by the government this year?

I know most of you aren’t fans, and personally I think Uncle G has been getting more and more cringe off late, but this post was spot on.

Friendly reminder everyone: taxation really is theft. Average tax at about 14-18% is enough for a civilized modern country to provide healthcare, public infrastructure (water, electricity, etc) and the run the country.

The rest, is theft. Estate tax/death tax has to be the biggest hoax of them all, and naturally, only the winners in life are the ones who pay the price. You’re basically punished for being successful, and for dying.

I encourage you all to evade as much tax as possible, and best of luck getting creative with those deductions!

I just love that the harder I work, the more money I get to put into the pockets of worthless paper pushing bureaucrats, corrupt politicians/their corporate cronie pals, and into projects and initiatives that offer absolutely nothing to society while Canada's basic infrastructure rots and burns! Really gets me going tbh.

To the people who will call me a heartless capitalist (lol u right but that's not the point) and claim they'd willingly pay more tax for improvements to society, dream on. Politicians will never spend your money wisely. The system is broken as fuck.

Thoughts and prayers to my fellow killas getting max taxed out the ass. Please find a good accountant. <3

I definitely need a better accountant.

And I will take you up on the starting a business piece. I’m getting close to done working for someone else.

No fucking way I'm marrying a millennial- or worse - unless she has more than I do. I want to keep my worldly possessions, and at least some of my dignity.

I’m in my late 20s… short of getting on the cougar train, age-wise I’m marrying someone comparable or younger than me.  Generationally, that means millennial, or younger.

The sheer thought of marrying anyone from this whiny and pathetic selection of demographics makes me physically sick. In North America anyway. Maybe if I move to Europe I’ll have better luck.

I’m just fine on my own.

Alright. I am mid-30s and got married at 29. Wife owns a business that pays her an owner draw that is 2X my earnings. Couple employees later and she only goes in 3 days a week—allowing her to co-found a mobile app that raised funding. We are both millennials and hard-working AF.

The cynical view that all millennials are whiny will only hold you back , IMO. However, you do you, boo-boo.

Taxes suck, but also my life is pretty easy because of services that come as a taxpayer. Beach access, library, top public schools, good roads, paved when it snows and of course the bulk of it, defense spending!
TheNegotiator

I guarantee you, the beach would still be there without the govt. stealing your money. Even if it had to be pay-to-enter, you’d be able to afford it with the extra 25-40% of your money that they didn’t steal from you.

Roads, and schools are (comfortably) included in the 18% I mentioned in my post.

There’s no way you slice and dice this equation and come out with a conclusion that you’re not being cheated out of your own money. And you’d likely be paid more too, because the govt wouldn’t be tax-fucking your employer too.

Yeah I guess we just agree to disagree here? I make good money, and pay what I’ve considered to be a fair enough share for the benefits I get for living in this society. I’d love to spend less on defense and police/fire but so be it.

My life is pretty fantastic and that’s alright by me, with the taxes as they are.
TheNegotiator

Well, I’m not agreeing with you, so I guess.

My life is pretty good. But it could be a lot better.

I live in an extremely expensive city. I just moved here too, so the expenses between moving and getting settled have been high as fuck.

My income (relatively) is high, so I should be grateful right? I am. But the govt takes nearly 40% of what I make, and my life would be a walk in the park without their bullshit. Instead I have to struggle on cash-flow and do projects bit by bit, because they steal from me.

I am and always will be bitter about it, and there will come a day where, like all other corporate scumbags I skate all the tax. It can’t come soon enough.

I’ll pay more tax by the time I’m 35 than most people in this country will pay in total, in their lives. I don’t owe this country shit, but they will keep trying to take more and more, the better I do. I’m not going to be punished for trying to get ahead, just because most people don’t have the courage or the ambition to do the same.  Not happening.

Nothing wrong with a friendly disagreement. I certainly see your points. I assume you’re taking every step towards lowering your taxable income? I certainly do that, and that’s all fair in the game.

That being said, as a taxpayer I feel like I have a lot of stake in the area I live in. I love the state forests I can hike and bike in, the public playgrounds etc. those are things I value.

can you move somewhere with lower taxes?

This is why I hate sales because even when you’re making $500,000+ a year y’all don’t want to try and make the word a better place you’d rather spend two months a year vacationing and only buy $80 bottles of wine and $9 coffees. Taxation is theft inasmuch as it goes back to corporations who don’t contribute a god damn thing to the world.
TheNegotiator

Say that again, slowly.

“As long as you’re making…”

That’s right. We’re making 500k a year, or striving toward that, or more.  And of course, someone just handed that to us right? Everyone makes 500k a year, it’s easy. It takes no effort, or dedication at all.

I just commented on your post, about how we both came from nothing.  If I get to the point where I’m making 500k a year, it’s not to continue drinking wine that tastes like vinegar, or Nescafé instant. I have had to fight for or take everything I have down to the clothes on my back. I have a right to keep it, and not have it stolen by a govt, to be given to people who either can’t or won’t work as hard.  Frankly I don’t want to get into the conversation around the people who “can’t” because that’s its own can of worms.

Nobody is making the world a better place. Get your head out of the clouds bud. Who made it better for you? You did.

You want to make the world a better place, have at it. I don’t want to make it a worse place, but I’m in it for me and for mine, just like everyone else.  It’s a very harsh truth, but it is THE truth, and I’m not even remotely ashamed of it.

You don’t have to evade taxes (illegal), you just need a solid team of financial professionals in your corner who know how to utilize the tax code to maximum effect (legal).

It’s a wide open frontier my friend!

Food, shelter, and water...the three basic needs for all life SHOULD NOT BE TAXED! Fuck property taxes.

I heard an interesting take on income / capital gains tax. If you make income from your job (trading your time for wages) it should not be taxed, but anything you make for just having money sit in an account (capital gains) should be taxed.
