Agree agree agree - I come from one of the most patriotic parts of Ireland and on a daily basis I find myself agreeing to all kinds of British political views whilst in the back of my mind I hear myself think, "If my mummy could see me now".

I sell to both sides of the aisle, as my market is mainly political, political NPOs, and large NPOs. I also have a political science degree.

This is great, but if you ticked off someone on one side of the spectrum they'd berate you about how Thomas Jefferson was a radical slave-holder lol so careful even dropping that on.
They can complain all they want, it doesn't matter how they feel about the man. A quote is a quote and it doesn't make it any less truthful nor change the meaning of his words. Any questions about his then-owned property can be directed to his estate.

Whoops, hit the wrong button. No, unless I am selling something directly tied to a political party (which I have no plans to ever do), then I literally do not care who I sell to. I do not judge what their personal beliefs are, all I care about is getting a signature on my damn docusign.
Yup. I share limited and safe info about myself for rapport building purposes and would never want to discuss heated issues with my prospects. I'm doing business, not making a friend (or enemy lol.)

Yes that makes sense, the reason I asked was because one of my friends was denied employment when they found out his political view. This is so stupid. Got me wondering if sales ever gets affected by this

I may have a different perspective, as my political views are generally in line with the customer base I serve. But I also don’t think I’d ever pretend to be anything I’m not. Im also not advocating for making an issue over differing political views, but... Lots o’ fish in the sea, and life is too short not to be your truly unvarnished self.

This is the truth. Also, from client's POV what political we hold as salespeople shouldn't matter. They should look at the product we are selling for what it is. But sadly, having a political orientation comes with its own set of prejudices.
I’ve literally leveraged shilling of foreign regimes to close global deals. Am I proud of it? Not really. Will I do it again? In a heartbeat.

Nah, politics is a no go IMO. BUT lately so many opinions in general are directly tied to political view so I could see this rapidly changing.

Not really. Not yet, at least. Most of the people we work with are successful and interested in tax-advantaged investments, which lends itself to at least a particular fiscal policy persuasion.

We have lobbyists who work behind the scenes of course, but there’s not a direct political element to what we do. I used to work in politics, so I’m glad to be where I am now!haha

This post is all too relevant and something that's been top of mind for me over the weekend. I've sold multiple deals to Israeli companies and given the recent events, jumped on a call with a prospect last Thursday who started laying in on his thoughts and the current situation. Tried the best I could to smile and wave....

well it never did but when it comes to prospecting. But all of a sudden some business partners in Syria, Iran, to name a few are no longer our partners so some revenue was lost.
