Do people really care about cover pages?

Hey all,

Who thinks cover pages are necessary? If they are, what section is the most important? What section do you usually look at first?

Thanks!

I think cover pages are the most obsolete tool in the hiring process.  If your company requires them, it is a surefire way to ensure that you will be missing out on tons of applicants to your job.

Precisely. And if it's not required, you can bet that the hiring manager/recruiter doesn't want to look at them.

It's really a lose/lose.

Generally, no. But depends on the role/company.

They can add value in certain scenarios and when catered correctly, but personally, I roll my eyes when I receive a resume with a cover letter. Simply because most are very generic and uncatered. Just fluff that is often repeated in interviews.

I want to know about your experience, which is on your resume. If I deem your experience relevant enough, that's when I'll reach out to set up an interview and learn about your character, desire for position, and other info that would be on your cover letter.

They're like an extra filter in the recruiting process, only it doesn't really do any good for both parties involved.

This would have been an interesting poll.

I don't think they are necessary. It's like uploading your resume then going to the next page to see you still have to type everything in. Like, why?
