ALWAYS. People buy from people, and turning on the camera is a small way to build the relationship.

Agree. Not to mention, when you're the only person on camera, it makes you vulnerable. Being vulnerable gives those around you strength to be vulnerable as well. It's a small thing, but instant trust builder.

100% on “people buy from people”. Even if a group call and nobody else has it, you’ll still see my face. Internal… usually on too. Depends how big the call is. I’m less likely when a lot of people (15+ I guess?).

I keep it on for internals too. For our sales department meetings of 60+ people, 80% have the cameras off. If you turn yours on, that's free face time with leadership in my eyes. You're always selling to management for future promotions, so might as well stand out as an engaged employee on internal meetings.

I agree man on the internal piece. To be such a small activity (clicking one button), it can have a big impact.

Absolutely. Was on an all hands earlier this month and nobody had it on. That said, the speaker was lacking in the charisma department so I had to turn it off when I found myself falling asleep.

Totally, show up a couple minutes early with the camera on, and you may find yourself getting small talk with a VP you would have never met 1 on 1 otherwise

Presentable in general. Not compared to floral/loud shirts. I was very thoughtful with my background though. Aim to have different conversation starters no matter what the prospect’s interest may be

LOL! I feel you on all parts here. I'm 100% on external (unless I'm just sitting in) and hit or miss internally. Although I have challenged myself recently to use more camera internally.

i have migrated to always on. It is so much more "real". And to echo below, people buy from people. But they also buy from people that they like. Much harder to like someone without putting a face to a name

A strong believer in a camera on policy in meetings where you're expected to contribute. Old CEO instituted one but would then happily chew me out with his camera off - more nerve-wracking when you're the only one on camera.

For prospects, 1000% - people buy from people.

Using data as a driver ought to steer you in the right direction. I'm unaware of that study but Gong has been mentioned to me several times today. We don't use it but our VP has considered investing in it. What's your experience been with Gong? Assuming you use it...

It is uncomfortable at first, but everyone that uses it prefers it. You will up your game by watching your own pitches, listen to objection handling, and getting a tidy summary of everything you said you would do at the end of the call. (I don't work for gong or have shares)

I feel that. Easy to get lost in the sauce on company-wide meetings anyways. I'm at a startup now but was at a large company prior and we had had a gazillion little boxes on our company-wides.
