Do you do your own demos, and why or why not?

If I have a good handle on the product I always want to do my own demos. I know the client and how to speak to them, and it allows me to have more control of the sales process. My sales always do better when I’m doing the demo. I currently sell a product that is so intense that I would most definitely embarrass myself if I attempted it which I’m not a fan of.

I do. I sell saas but it’s not so complex that I can’t talk about the product. I imagine it depends industry to industry and sometimes product to product. Demos are hard work but I love that I’m in control and wouldn’t want to trust someone else. I sometimes have an SE with me and I use them for technical stuff but most of the time I kind of hate their answers so I’m glad I mostly have control.

Ok so it's like this.

I can demo. However, I prefer to have an expert lead the way so they can answer all of the intricate IT shit that I don't know instead of me writing the question down and getting back to them later. I like to keep things moving.

Our product is so complex that I'd rather have my product specialists run my demos.  Couple more reasons for this:  I sell to banks and many of our product specialists are former bankers (credit analysts, relationship managers, etc.) so they know what matters to the audience and how to speak to it.  Also our demo environment goes through so many updates that I can't spend all that time to keep up with the latest updates in order to not screw up a demo.

Our AEs do their own demos. And are the only ones on their demos. I would hate to rely on someone else to demo our product for me. During the demo is when we are also selling! Losing out on that would be rough.

By making an emphasis in finding people with very different life experiences, they're making a concerted effort to retrain our minds to bring people that look like us, act like us, eat the same food as us, have the same privilege as us, went to the same type(s) of schools as us, etc. into the organization.
