what do you mean by hard goods? this is not my area of work but im interested to see what ppl say.

I would imagine anything to make it easier for a customer to learn about a product would be a good thing.

Hi mate,

by hard goods i mean something "touchable".

I.E. as i work in the sport industry I am sometimes asked to show apparel in online meetings, but it's really tough because the retailer can't check the fabric or see the actual color of what i'm showing, so he has to trust me 100%.

yeah that makes sense. as a consumer I feel like that would still be helpful even if I had to rely on you describing the fabric quality and such

I said 'no', but that's mostly because I'm in software

Obviously, it would depend entirely on what specifically you are selling but any time you can give people a better idea of what they'll potentially be buying can't hurt. Unless you're selling garbage, in which case deception is your game.

Yeah there'll be a lot people will miss if they aren't physically touching the product but showing it to them on a zoom might bring them closer to meeting in person and eventually buying.

I would think it would be one step in a process - get your buyer to the point where they want to see it in person, if you can't get their total buy-in on the spot.

You could at least eliminate those who don't like what they see over zoom so you don't spend any more cycles on them or have to ship samples.

Absolutely, former golf and apparel rep here and I would roll it all out for my buyers. They loved to touch and feel it all.

When I sold hard goods it was much more impactful to talk about delivered value than just show the fancy components. But for bigger deals we sometimes did both just because they want to put their hands on it

At the beginning of covid it was obviously a necessity. I still have around 50% of clients either working remotely or not taking outsiders (I live in a major metro) so I still use quite a bit of virtual presentations to sell product. Probably 50% of my presentations are virtual. Some bare fruit, and some feel useless
