Do you hate bikers as much as me? And why don't they follow the rules?

Ok so I almost killed some shithead bicyclist in Boston recently (I didn't....but it was inches away from him going down hard). Dude comes flying across an intersection during a red light. They seem to not give a shit about traffic laws.

Love the idea of people biking for exercise, reducing traffic if you live close to work (not sure why you need to wear the spandex tho), but why do all bikers seem to be entitled douchebags?

Sorry for the rage post. Not sure if its just a Boston thing or not, but would love to hear others experiences in Boston and/or other cities.

Do you bike and/or hate bicyclists?

Cycling is great, but people need to obey the laws. Rolling stop at a stop sign? I can get that.

Blowing through reds or weaving in and out is INSANE.

Absolutely. I don't really understand so many motorcycle riders, either. The speeding and lane splitting while surrounded by multi ton hunks of metal going....

A 17 year old kid from my town died in June passing when he wasn't supposed to and went right into a truck going the opposite direction. So pointless and sad. So avoidable. Traumatizing to everyone involved.

That is so sad.
Right now, our small(ish) town is dealing with children on ebikes. Wrong way riding, blasting down sidewalks and weaving around pedestrians, and the worst - the daredevils who've watched too much TikTok and play chicken with cars while popping wheelies. It's just a matter of time before something really goes wrong. And while those kids are super annoying, I don't want any of them dead before they mature enough to realize just how stupid they're being. But it's inevitable at this point.

I ride every morning in Boston to train for races and I donโ€™t fuck with running reds or ducking into traffic. Thatโ€™s for psychos.

Some idiots give us a bad name.

This. And no one uses blinkers in this entire state....so the chances a biker will use a hand signal is nil

the majority of bikers are conscious of road rules and understanding that they need to be cautious because even if they are in the right they aren't walking away easily from a car accident. That said, delivery riders in NYC have a death wish

I don't mind them in the city. Problem is I've seen far too many of them on suburban parkways or even actual highways where they're just causing a traffic jam behind them as everyone clamors to get into the left lane to pass them during rush hour traffic.

I get it, you're training for the Tour de France Lance Armstrong, but people are trying to get to work or get home in a timely manner.

I am a big runner and bikers hate me because in order to run and not constantly run in the into pedestrians walking I use the bike lane.

I am the asshole for taking up a the bike lane from time to time.

Oh wait I read that too quickly as "I am a plus sized runner" instead of big, and then had visions of a very portly individual clogging the bikers lane

There is a road in my city that is famous for sports cars and motorcycles to drive on. Its in a more rural part of the city, so not much traffic and the road is full of twists and turns, making it great for driving/riding fast.

For some reason, cyclist LOVE going out to this road and riding 5 people wide on a road full of blind corners and cars/motorcycles going 80-100mph.

The city has repeatedly put out statements saying that cyclist need to ride single file and they just refuse. Some dummy gets hit every few months and the cycling community gets up in arms about how they should be able to ride side-by-side with as many people as they want.

Cops, who gave up long ago on trying to ticket the cars/motorcycles, now hang out there and only give tickets to cyclist trying to double/triple up on the road.
It's like they WANT to be hit by a car, just so they can complain.

Sorry but quite a lot of this behavior comes from bad street design in the US. Thereโ€™s quite some good YouTubers out there, making great content comparing outcomes of different designs. If you donโ€™t build car-centric cities, you can actually make it easy to obey the rules.

Wait so people not obeying red lights should be blamed on the people who designed the streets of Boston for horse-drawn carriages in the 1600s?

I stopped, for the most part, riding on roads because of d-bag drivers who threw bottles at me, "rolled coal", swerved to pretend they were going to hit me, and countless other things. I either MTB or ride my garage trainer.

Try to have a little empathy, US cities are terribly designed for cyclists.

I biked to work in Chicago and Boston for 10 years, followed the rules to a T, and was almost killed multiple times by drivers who werenโ€™t paying attention and clearly didnโ€™t care about my life.
