I've been in sales for just over 10 years (both IC and management). Sometimes I love it, sometimes i hate it, most time I just get on with it to reap the rewards that I'm in it form.
I know a lot of tenured sales people (occasionally myself too) that sometimes wish they could go do something else because they get sick of the tedious parts of the job: useless middle managers, death by internal process, infinite prospecting, terrible clients, quarter ends, forecasting.. whatever it is for you..
Usually the conversation goes something like "urgh i'm so fed up with sales right now.. but what else can I do? sales ops suck, channel is bleh.. and where else would I get the same money?"
I'm not talking about being at year 2 in your 20s and wondering if sales is for you.
I also don't see many super tenured reps in many companies, except the senior leadership. Maybe it's the industry: new hot industries are maybe younger than selling printers, facility management services, or construction equipment. I dunno.
So Question: do you all feel the same? do you have an exit plan? have you explored it or seen someone do it successfully? or will you just ride this out one quarter at a time..
