Do You Have Range With Your Work Dress Code?

So the other day I decided to come into work in a suit. No particular reason I was just gassed up about playing organized soccer for the first time since I was nine years old and winning. I felt so good that I decided to dress up. I swear I would've gotten fewer questions if I came into work wearing sweats and an old t-shirt. Everyone asked me "Chep what's with the suit?". Everyone looked at me crazy when I told them I felt like celebrating the closed-won (My companies soccer team being 1-0). In their defense, I obviously work in sales and multiple people assumed I was talking about my actual job and not the company-sponsored soccer team.

Fast forward to today and I decided to wear one of my favorite t-shirts that I will include a photo of below and now I'm getting slacked "Chep You baffle me. Suit one day coffee graphic tee another day you are in a league of your own!" Of course, I wore nice pants into the office but felt like handing out some smiles via my t-shirt so I dressed down a little.

Anyways, curious if anyone likes to have range with their work outfits? Funny how when you start wearing a certain set of clothes people just expect it and when you switch it up they are confused. For a moment I was thinking about coming into work every day with a suit, but that quickly changed when I woke up the following day (No closed-won soccer game to make me feel amazing) and realized I had no desire to wear a suit multiple times a week.

P.S - Bought this shirt at the GAP for 5 dollars and I have been incredibly happy with my purchase.

I'm almost always on the business side of business casual as are many others in my office, but at my last job when I'd wear dresses/heels I'd alllllways get comments. "Got a date later? Where else ya interviewing? Ooooh fancy." But now I wear stuff like that all the time so nobody says anything anymore.

Hahahahahaha yooooooo the accuracy. That very morning when I wore a suit I go to my local Starbux and the dude taking my order asks me where I'm interviewing then when I told him I wasn't he asked me what I did and gave me a business card ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿค

Yup. The attention I get when I wear a dress and heels vs jeans and a top is crazy, and not just from men. Women treat me better too. People are way friendlier, holding doors, making small talk, smiling in the street.ย

Use to (preCOVID) ride the Lightrail (train thingy in Seattle) every day in a suit. I would not fail to get a comment about how handsome I looked from this small old woman every day. Make my day.ย

Sure beats the shorts and T-shirt I wear to work now lol

Black tee, black or blue jeans, some type of nike shoe on my feet. That's my usual unless it's a day I'll see board members/investors/clients, and then I throw on a button-up and nicer shoes.

I am very much the type of when you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you do good. That motto looks different for everyone. For me being a cowboy from Ol Wyoming, I like button down nice western Cinch long sleeves and nice starched jeans. But I also like to โ€œSuite Upโ€ as Barney Stinson likes to say. For my daytime job Iโ€™m usually in a nice company polo and nice jeans itโ€™s slacks. The point is, that this is different to everyone and to you if you know what you in your mind is looking good you will feel good and in turn you will do good.

Yes, I do the same. If there's a meeting, it's a suite. if it's early in the week, it's chino's and a collar shirt. if it's friday, it's golf pants and a tshirt.

Love it. Yea I always try and dress nicer when I know I will be delivering a disco/demo, but if not I'm not afraid to wear my favorite T-shirts and dress down.ย

Due to lock down I now can't fit into my good shirts, so a nice T and a throw over is the go to!ย

If, for some reason, I have an early morning meeting, there's a good chance I'm not wearing pants. WFH FTW

I work remotely so itโ€™s casual at home and dress when on sales calls. Nice best of both worlds.

I do 3-piece Thursdays. Wear a 3-piece suit every Thursday. Suffer through the heat for the drip.

I wear the same black pants and shirts (have like 4-5 pair of each of them) every day, but I splashed out and got a patagonia vest + got it embroided myself. Did it with a down jacket too when it's too cold

For a person that wears the exact same clothes every day, damn do I feel great about that vest and jacket haha.

Every industry is different. In mine, we are taught to keep it mostly business causal or dress for who you are selling to.ย
My customer range from small mom & pop shops where they are installing the material I sell them or country folks to CEO, CFO, Presidents, VP, etc. Like I mentioned dress for your crowd. For the country and hands on customers, I tend to wear boots, blue jeans, and a polo. ย While for the more business formal customers, well simply put like their ย description slacks, wingtips, nice polo (depending upon the time of year and geographical location) or a button downย

When I want to have a productive day and feel confident and good I always dress up much nicer than say on a casual Friday. I feel that dressing up can actually help my performance in sales. Don't let the haters get to you!
