Do you know if cold calling works in 2024?

Hey team! Do you know if cold calling works in 2024? What strategies are you using? Is it a smart approach to combine LinkedIn with cold calling? (Every response is much appreciated)

That's important and very clear. Yet, I am trying to understand the markets and how to approach them via cold calling. :)

I'm drunk rn, but having the title of "Business Head" is making me laugh so much.

Head of Business? No, they call me the Business Head. Head full of business.

Depends on the rep. GOT a cold call this morning that went like thisโ€ฆ.

Them: โ€œIโ€™m calling on behalf of a local realtor and was wondering if you were considering selling your house at this time?โ€

Me: โ€œNo Iโ€ฆ..โ€

Them: CLICK

This is now a thing, apparently. Seeing people sell courses and events on this bullshit. No idea how ROI could work out..

It's one thing if a house is for sale by owner and you're trying to get them representation, but just dialing people to see if they're selling? Ridiculous

Kinda..it's a necessary evil as part of a multi-channel strategy (dependent on type of target persona & their accessibility and quality of contacts/lists). No secret that conversion rates with minimally segmented cold outreach are pretty anemic though..I've experienced a range of between 2-5% (crap quality lists) to 9-13% (crap lists mixed with mid quality names captured from events / lead magnets etc). Most B2B sequences will now include LI as well as phone / emails....and there's lots of varying opinions on best methods to engage via LI......given so many variables, best to A/B test to find path of least resistance.

Yeah, I understand your point. That's why I am considering this strategy but I am sceptical about it. LinkedIn has been working well for me till now. But I am trying to scale up my strategy and I am exploring different ways of approaching.

Yep, it does but relying on it solely to make your numbers wont work.
Itโ€™s expensive and generally has a low ROI. I generally only do it when Iโ€™ve finished a customer visit in the same street or area.

Yes it works and you are right, if its combined with other types of outreaches, results could be better.

Thank you for your comment. Do you think using LinkedIn and then cold calling as a strategy would make it warm?

It does, your strategy should be to research, personalize and go multi-channel with as high a degree of confidence in your message resonating as possible.

If you haven't got the message right, I don't care if you send a singing telegram with cookies to try to sell me some bullshit cold email list I'll never use.

Always has, still does. Whatโ€™s important is it is in context. Some industries lends themselves well to just straight Cold calling, most b2b software sales requires a multi channel approach.

Like advertising, Cold outreach needs to reach the right person at the right time on the right channel for them, and often more than one channel.
1
Business Development Manager
Yeah, that's the point. I don't think that cold calling alone is the way to go. Somehow combining channels is essential to make cold calling warm.

Everybody is doing cold emails, Linkedin InMails, getting flagged as spam and at best 3% return on any sequences...
So don't disregard a phone conversation that gets you immediate feedback, allows you to find out relevant information about your target companies and to actually interact with another human on the other side.
That being said, it's a hard job that requires discipline, grit, a sense of humour, and leaving your ego at the door.

Good luck Arjen! :)

Hey!!
Welcome to the War Room, great first post.

This is Gasty - WR Community Manager. Just wanted to highlight a few points before I talk about the post.

WR is a Sales Community Platform with some of the best Sales people and their advice is pure gold. This is an anonymous platform. Going anon will help you get the most out of this platform.

We consistently post Leaderboardโ€™s, Fun Fridayโ€™s, whoโ€™s hiring and more.

This isnโ€™t LinkedIn, you can go as detailed as you want. Just focus on providing value.

You can also use the search bar, youโ€™ll get all the posts related to this, that weโ€™ve had a discussion on.

Lastly, have you checked out the commission store yet? If not, I highly recommend. Earning those points is also super easy. Upvotes get you points. We got some amazing goodies that you can bag. Just be more active, post more, engage more.

Now to talk about your post;

Of course it works!! Everything and anything works if youโ€™re smart about it. Use omnichannel approach for outreaches and hard work will bring good luck!

Welcome once again!! :)

My target was HR and went to an HR conference a month ago and started asking around about if and what kind of things would get them to answer a cold call or email and the answer was, NOTHING. They said they never reply or call anyone back from cold outreach. Thoughts?
