Do you leave a Voicemail during cold prospecting?

Hey Guys,

Quick advice required..

Do you guys believe in leaving a voice note during cold prospecting. If yes, when do you do it, is it during your first call or subsequent calls. Do you get a call back? If yes, you're doing something great, what sort of messaging you use in your note.

I have received some callbacks but if I have to say in percentage its not even 5%, curious to know if I am missing something and how can I improve those points.

Yes, why not? Someone once told me - โ€œa cold dial + voicemail may not get you a call back, but a cold call without one never will. So why not?โ€

I leave a few, especially if Iโ€™ve sent something particularly interesting.

Leave a voicemail saying you will follow up via email too and then send the email.

I often follow up with the email, where the first line of the email reads "Hey {{Name}}, I just missed your call." and then follow with the rest of the email

Sometimes I throw in a "Hey PROSPECT, do me a favour and give me a call back so I can run something by you. It's Sadnes5 with COMPANY. 555-867-5309, again, 555-867-5309. Looking forward to it - bye"

People always call and are like "who are you?" "what?" and it's like oh... I thought you were expecting my call, now that I have you - I want to sit down and chat about X in person. Is Thursday good?

Meh, I've gotten more callbacks from no-voicemail calls than from voicemails... But I like SADNES5's approach as well, I'm good for one of these every now and again...ย

Agree, I do find that leaving a VM increases the chance Iโ€™ll get an email response though!ย

I always do. Usually do a deep dive into my wildest conspiracy theories. One VM leads to 4...because what theory can be explained in one? Eventually they call back cause they are obviously more concerned about my wellbeing than anything else. Then I set a meeting.

For the conspiracy theory I usually like to start with something about Disney

For my other ones it usually goes something likeย

"Hey "person", its "me" from "company". I was just following up the email I sent you regarding "product/problem" give me a call back at "phone number"

Yes. Always.

Hey it's Sadnes5 calling with COMPANY, I need you to give me a shout back at 555-867-5309, again that is 555-867-5309. It's about your PRODUCT. Looking forward to it - bye.ย

This isn't a perfect script but it'll get you a call back. 60% Success.ย

I spit sunshine and smiles all day long so YES I always leave a cheerful, enticing voicemail. Do they ever return my call? Hell to the nawww, but sometimes...hell yes I get a call back! And that's a glorious day.

If the person you're reaching out to wants your products or services, they will call you back though...vm or not.ย

first and last call always leave a VM. Don't you want them to know you're trying to get in touch? Always throw in a few ghost calls(ie a few calls no vm) and you'll get lucky here and there but when in doubt voicemail it out

Usually I do a call after sending my first email in the cadence. If I leave a voicemail I usually play the game of โ€œfollowing up on my email from the other day looking to connect on xyzโ€. I know many sales trainings teach people to not leave a VM on the first dial, but if Iโ€™m going to dial I might as well try to bring some value to my time .

I'm not sure what industry you're in or what product you're selling, but here's a small suggestion that has worked for me before.

If you do thorough research while prospecting, you should leave personalized voice notes highlighting the value proposition and spitting out what you already know about the customer.

For example:

"Hey PROSPECT, I found out you're doing amazing with ________. I have a tool/product that can help you ___________ (Value Proposition). If that sounds good to you, we can schedule a demo call"

And it should end with introduction & closing.

Personally, not a big Voicemail Guy. But if/when I do, its usually something like "Hey Jimbo, Patrick here. Gonna shoot you an email right now, let me know your thoughts."

Never more than 30 seconds long because who the fuck listens to voicemails any more?

Nope I have never left a voicemail, feel that nobody responds to them it is just a way to make them more mad if they answer your cold call because it may annoy them more blowing up there phone.ย

Then I instantly text them, and sometimes even email. Get about a 33% callback

I like the idea of text but many a times I got a wave back stating it wasn't required or that's my personal number not meant for business so I stopped doing it

Yeah I always do just to get the company name out there. I always give more information (hoping to introduce you to which solves โ€œxโ€), but I keep it like a sentence. Iโ€™ve set some meetings this way. I just like to be upfront about why Iโ€™m calling

I use VMs like a minor CTAs. Examples belowย

"Hey Prospect. We work with a lot of TITLE. I'll send an email after this outlining why others like you reach out to us"

"Hey Prospect. I'd bet you're like me and don't pick up numbers you don't know. So I'm giving you a heads up I'll call again a little after 2 tomorrow. I'd love to discuss SPECIFIC PAIN."

Most people have VMs transcribed so it acts like an email but doesn't feel as spammy

So here is my issue- I am old, so by the time they call me back I forget who they are and why I called them ( my compelling event), so I don't leave VM not to lose that "edge".

This also allows me to try a few times. If I left a VM, I have to allow them the time to respond ( so like a day or two) - the ball is on their court.ย

So no, I don't like leaving voice mails.ย

Always leave a VM. Most prospects are getting multiple calls from vendors each day. So no VM just becomes another random. Iโ€™ll leave 1-2 VMs and then shoot a text after a few attempts.

If I have the ability to go into the customers shoes, and peak interest for them to call back I do. If I have sent a personal video I like to let them know via voicemail

Sometimes I've just said it's Amazon or UPS and hung up mid sentence to get a call back also.

People really underestimate how fast you can get through calls if you don't leave VMs.

I leave a few at the start of the day to loosen up. But it's just a morale thing.
