Do you like or love your job?

I was browsing LinkedIn (I know right, I must be crazy now that we have Bravado) and saw a video Simon Sinek posted about this topic. Where a barista loved one job but hated the other, same job, different hotel.

This got me thinking do I love or like my job?

What’s the difference? Like is rational, you like the people you work with, the challenge and even the amount you are paid. Love is emotional. You love your family, your pets and spouse.

If you love your job what makes you have that emotional connection? If you like it, what’s missing? What environment will help you work at your best?

I don't believe anyone is like "Fucking sick I get to make cold calls get rejected 80% of the time and have a number to chase." With that acknowledge the people you work with the boss you report to can make all the difference in the world. I don't like or love to work, If I won the lotto I'd retire and never think about work again. I work as a means to an end.

Not everyone is rep, but I get your point, I do several calls a day, get yelled at and slammed on the phone. I still love my job, for me it's all about the statistics and numbers, never knowing when someone will pick up and get that sale! The rush of the game fills me with euphoria, what can I do to improve my numbers? That question keeps me up at night with a smile.

A great manager makes all the difference in the world. When I really started taking off as a sales rep it was because I had a manager who believed in me and pushed me to be better everyday. I learned more than just sales. A great leader leads by example and brings out the best in his sales team. I learned to stop making excuses, personal accountability, self discipline, and more. If I had not had the manager I had at that time I may not be where I am today.

I just really appreciate my company and the people I work with. Yes, it's work which isn't always fun but they do go out of their way to create a positive environment with good people in it. I would say I'm in a pretty serious relationship with my job, but I can't say love yet. It's not even because of anything to do with the job itself. The job is fine, what I really enjoy about it is the freedom that it offers to spend time with family. If you don't enjoy your job AND it doesn't give you any 'perks' to be happy outside of it, you are just burning at both ends.

Life's a balance right. You figure out the right balance to take care of your family, enjoy as many moments as you can, and not hate everything about your job. I'm in a good spot right now with all things considered. If I decided to make that move it would be starting from nearly square one. Added stress, more time away from family (more than likely), and less of those perks.

Wasn't loving my job until I changed companies and fell back in love with sales.   I'm with a company that has a leading solution, good support, and values me and my experience.  I came from a very large tech company where I was not valued and was underutilized.   I've been reminded how much I enjoy talking to people and chasing after deals during the end-to-end sales cycle.    Don't love what you do?  Maybe consider making a change.  For me, it wasn't the job, it was where I was working.

Most people see a job as a means to an end: getting to retire with decent savings to hold you over comfortably. However, you're usually stuck working for 45+ years of your life so you might as well make sure you choose something you enjoy doing and you do well.

I originally studied education knowing that it wouldn't get me the best-paying job ever, but being a teacher (in any of its forms, like sales trainer) is rewarding enough to stick with for years.

I love being in a job long enough to know what it takes to be successful. So much of what I love is the ability to make as much money as I'm willing to work for and knowing how much work needs to go into that.

I love having the ability to control my income at a young age. I work at a company that has startup pains, and yeah cold calling fuckin blows. But few other roles enable people to run their own life like sales does.

Also a huge fan of having real data points. My success is empirical. All of my leaders know how much I've closed and how hard I worked to get there, so there's no grey area for determining good, consistent reps vs. shitty ones who just got lucky. Gives a sense of security in the role - just hit your number and you'll always be good!

This is my first job since graduating college and I like it - offers a great work/life balance (only really work 25-30 hours/week), great people and immediate team, and sell a great service to good clients. I would love it if they would increase my base pay in relation to my performance over the past two years. People who join with 2+ years experience start at 90k base while I'm at 50k base. I'm 240% over quota and will make close to 70k, but I know people who are on pace to be 1000% over quota, are only breaking 90k. Do you have to switch companies to get a reasonable (70k+) base pay?

I don't get anywhere near 70k, I'm not based on the US, but here you need less money to have a good life with all the perks, have great views and even own a small farm. Success is not determined by the amount you cash in but with much you enjoy your day to day routine. I'm sure there are many 70k+ out there, you just have to keep looking until you land it!
