disclaimer that i'm well aware i don't have the answers to this and could be wrong - but i just don't think sales people are meant to be influencers. look at grant cardone for god sakes or collin cadmus offering fucking crypto advice on a linkedin poll. hard pass.

there's got to be a middle ground somewhere - but when corp has built a majority of this thing as satire, that should tell you a lot.

Most will make a quick buck and disappear IMO.

They are just people with popular opinions and the word influencer is only attached to them because that's what they want to be seen as.

You can like what someone has to say without them influencing you and drinking their coolaid.

Not in the household name sense. But they can definitely create a personal brand to make a comfortable living. A certain bro comes to mind for that…

I think a great deal of being an influencer is being an entertainer.  You're providing a distraction which might be more or less guised as professional development.

If you're a great salesperson it may very well be more profitable to be out selling.

In my mind I don't want to be famous necessarily as a great sales person because of the connotations that I'm exercising some control over the people I'm selling to.  I want those people to think buying from me is for other reasons than my sales savvy.

I mean yes and no. Yes in that there are already sales influencers who are doing great and connecting people and they're blowing up... in the sales community.

But not the way that Instagram influencers or TikTok influencers blow up, no.

Depends on your personal career goals...if you're looking to move into management you're going to have to be at a company longer than a year or two to receive that promotion. If you want to max out your earning potential before you leave, that could be several years in the same job depending on your company's comp plan.

definitely stay at least a year to vest my options (if you’re granted equity). It’ll probably take a year or so to learn the product and understand how to sell it confidently, so I’d hate to throw that away by switching jobs and start over.
