I've only felt like this once in my career, and it made me resent my manager every time he tried to tell me I wasn't doing a good job.
Talking purely IQ? Yes. But he definitely has better sales smarts given he has decades of experience on me.

Smarter, yes. Better at my job than my manager, no. It also depends on what context you want to use the term "smarter", if it is smarter with sales experience and tactics, hands down they have me beat. That is why they are my manager.ย

I definitely feel the opposite here- I think my boss is smarter than me (and has more experience) BUT I think I outweigh in the sales skills category. He's been in sales probably twice (if not three) times longer than me and can be very set in his ways of doing things and thinking so sometimes I struggle given the data we're all seemingly force fed about sales now.
Let's say sales-smart then. If you're smarter than them when it comes to sales, how would that impact things?
I feel like overall I am but about the subject/product we sell he is much more knowledgeable mainly because Iโm 4 months in to this new role.
I'm lucky to have a really smart manager. He was an ADR, then an AE, then a manager and then a VP (all at the same place). He's done it all, so I really value his insight/opinions.

My manager has 25+ years of sales experience and his a great mentor on anything sales related. In terms of the knit and grit, probably not because he doesn't have to deal with customers anymore.ย
