Do you use ProNouns in your signature

It has been like wildfire at my company, but everyone is starting to roll out pronouns in their signature. Thoughts on this?

I don't like having whats there now, but wanted to see where everyone landed on this

FWIW knowing your audience is important on this. I don't have a problem with pronouns and it shouldn't bother people or at least doesn't bother me but it matters a lot to the LGBT community and utilizing inclusive language so the way I see it, it won't trigger me and it makes other people feel like they are heard so I don't see a negative to it.

No. I sell to construction firms. That would not be received well.

Could you imagine if we had pronouns in our signature and pitched to our clients 😂 we would get wrecked or chastised throughout the industry at the very least.

I honestly don’t get it. The use of pronouns is to refer to people in the discourse (I or You) or people mentioned in the discourse (he or she). But, people mentioned in the discourse are not present. So (and I mean this in the nest way) why does it matter?

So if you're ever talking about them behind their backs, you'll know what pronouns to use.

Nah, I don’t do it. I don’t give a fuck what someone wants to refer to me as, if they’re brain dead enough to refer to me and my masculine name as a female, then WhatevsMcGevs I guess

I am all about bringing your whole self to work, and if that means putting your preferred pronouns in your signature then, by all means, toss them in there. There's no room for being afraid of things that are "other than"...so if you have a problem with someone doing it then I'm afraid you have some personal growth to do.

Yeah, I mean I didn't care the only thing I was worried about was how people would react to seeing that in my signature line. Honestly, though my company does value their employees and they'd be willing to turn down a shitty person that would react badly to this.

forced us?! Sorry to hear that. At my last job we were heading in that direction and a dev was a rebel by creating his own pronouns. Could not be questioned, and it was funny since I knew he was doing it to fight back.

Yeah, I mean again I really don’t see it as a big deal. It’s words that have no intent of insulting someone. We can’t control how people feel but we can control the intent. It’s not like we’re ending our emails with piss off douchebag

I don't, but I'm not against it. However, as others have mentioned you need to know your audience. I saw a post on LI where everyone grabbed their pitchforks and torches because the sales rep used pronouns in their signature and the prospect told them they lost the sale because of that. The prospect was from a religious organization and everyone is surprised that he declined the sale because of pronouns.... but like come one seriously know your audience. We are in sales - a sale is sale is a sale not sell to those morally aligned with you.

TBH I think the entire idea of having pronouns is just waste.

If someone calls you by a different pronoun and you are offended, you need to work on yourself for being so fragile FFS.

Frankly my mum calls me by feminine pronouns at times, and gives me a girly nicknames. Since decades. I play along.

I have it on my LinkedIn, reason being I have a ‘unisex’ name so I kept getting called Sir a lot 😂 however I like that it’s an option for people, I think the more people who use pronouns on their signature/ LinkedIn then the more comfortable trans and non-binary folk are as well, inclusivity isn’t a bad thing 🙂

Someone who may be part of that community may see you using bro or dude as a pronoun a mockery of the community.

I don't see the benefit of changing it. In my view, it seems like it would have no benefit, but could potentially lead to backlash, so the risk v reward isn't there

I'm not a part of that community, I don't use pronouns in my signature, and personally, I'd find it funny if I saw it. I'm trying to be empathetic so this is completely based on speculation and opinion

I'm all for it, but I don't think it would be received well in more traditional industries. I'm in tech, so no one gives a flying fuck, but I worked in oil & gas before - that would've been interesting to say the least.

What/who you do in your Bedroom, or how you look in the Bathroom is really none of my concern, and vice-versa. No pronouns for me, call me what you want, just press hard on that contract. You are signing in triplicate.

Yes, as often as possible. Because the more we see it and normalize it the less uncomfortable it becomes for someone who doesn't identify the same and is ready to share that.

I think pronouns can be a helpful thing with foreign names especially Indian, African or South East Asian ones. But please don’t use pronouns if you are called Caroline Waters, John Miller etc.

The thing is, the Spanish language academy defined the masculine version of words as the inclusive way. Amigos, Ciudadanos, Humanos, Americanos, etc. those are mean to include everyone. Do respect direct male/female pronouns tho, otherwise is weird haha.
The new waves of change calling to replace todos with "todes" to be inclusive, in my eyes, are nonsensical since the language is already meant to be inclusive with an o.
