look at me - i'm the marketing team now.

uh yeah, but only because im revops. we have sales & marketing in one location (although im surrounded by empty desks atm).

consistency through the funnel is key. if something in a white paper isnt articulated the same on a call, people will bounce. gotta make sure it's a perfect daisy chain from first engagement to customer success!

I regularly send an invasion of my intern armada into marketing's office once per month without notice and will have my interns hold marketing hostage with guns pointed to their heads until they can answer where the leads are. I usually get an angry little email from our CMO and HR but I just started flagging them as spam.

Just starting this convo as it has always been a weakness on our end. No data yet but just hoping that something is better than nothing at this stage.ย

I'd advise against this.

There is one time you should work with Marketing.

Directly when the CRO (the Sales Leader) has Marketing working for them.

Do not join pilot programs.ย  Stay back.ย  Let Marketing fail.ย  Always roll good data up against Marketing until your CRO gets the full power.ย  Then work with them.

The best place to win against a bad marketing team is their Ad Spend (which is great data I have and will release weekly to the Bravado War Room) and Visitor Growth : Bounce Rate.

If they spend money on ads and they bounce.ย  You got a shitty marketing team.ย  It's like a bad sales team that can't convert.

What about the SaaS company that relies heavily on inbound leads than O/B?

I would like to, but in the past they rarely want to take any feedback. In my experience, marketing teams get frustrated when you try to tell them how to do marketing because everyone tells marketing how to do marketing. It's similar to people on LI who have never sold telling salespeople how to sell.

The best way to do it is to try to be the "voice of the customer" and incept ideas into their heads.ย

Tried to but once it took him 3 months to send out 1 generic email campaign and then never sent out a different one I had requested so I threw in the towel.

Don't remind me... ugh.

Today I was asked a question by their team that... is on the front page of our website...ย

I selected 'No' only because, no matter how hard I try, I cannot get any time with Product Marketing to discuss feedback I'm receiving from customers as well as requests for content that would help me move deals forward.

It is incredibly infuriating because I consistently get "Leads" pushed to me that have absolutely zero value. There is supposed to be alignment but there isn't.

I would gladly work with my Marketing team, if only they would work with me.

I try to but time after time it never gets better. Stuck actually. Marketing person is the bossโ€™s daughter so itโ€™s rather hard to say โ€˜get your act togetherโ€™
