Does anyone else feel trapped in sales?

This might be a dumb question but I feel as though the money I’ve been able to make is starting to trap me into sales when I am still early in my career.

I want to do other jobs and try other things but I know I will make no where near what I can make now and I’m the future selling.

Anyone else feel this now or have felt this? If so what did you do?

My game plan is being in sales for 3-5 years, make a ton of cash, invest, diversify my portfolio, invest in NFT's, keep costs down/stay single and then put down roots somewhere in south east Asia. Sales in the means to the end for me, not the other way around. Focus on how sales can help you achieve your goals vs trapping you. Just my 2 cents.

I very much relate to this. I've started some side hustles, but it would be difficult to commit full time

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
Yeah, that's part of it for sure. The only way out of what you're feeling is to avoid lifestyle creep (or pull spending back down), stash cash and set yourself up to move out of the profession. Or just see cash as what you're doing it for and make a plan to retire early. Mindset can be part of it as well.

" avoid lifestyle creep  " Sooo important!

Use the extra cash to become more independent and then you could maybe jump to an other job, because money does not matter anymore.

I love sales, but when I nee time to think and clear my mind, I go for a long walk to the garden with a cup of coffee and just sit there to relax

Yup, it's the golden handcuffs...

There are other roles I'd enjoy more but would not have anything near the earnings I have in sales so I won't leave. My plan is similar to other posters' in here - earn like a beast, invest wisely, and then GTFO and live off passive income somewhere nice. I definitely don't plan on being in sales until I'm old and grey.

Definitely can relate. Similar to some other posters here, I think I'd like to be out of sales in the next 5 years, will just need to plan to keep lifestyle managed

Kinda, I invested a lot of money on myself for all things sales related so I feel trapped because of those investments.

I miss working and not having to talk to people sometimes when I was in security IT and I miss the money since making a career transition hurt me financially.

Yeah, I feel you. Sometimes I just want to know what would have happened if I went another way.

A little bit, but like any career building up past 6 figures in income takes years

I always find myself most of the way through the year with the bulk of my days unused... just a bad habit of not using PTO

You earn the PTO as part of your job and you better believe I am going to use it. It's called Paid time off and it's offered as a perk. If a company doesn't want you to utilize it then don't offer as many and then you won't get to attract talent. sorry not sorry

I do. Other than doctors, lawyers and those engineers, there aren't many people who make more than us. But I think it's time to look for something a bit more entreprenueiral
