Does marketing actually suck at your company?

We make a lot of jokes about marketing and they are definitely valid but I do get a lot of good inbound at my company so at the end of the day I would say they are a value add.

How about at your company?

I imagine what my role would be like without them as a lead gen leader as well as sales management. On lead gen side it is impossible to do as much as we do with no support. Are they annoying, sure, do I dislike majority of their asks and expectations, yes. But I need them and they need us, so try and work well together minus the hate lol

Marketing in the industry I work in is generally weak. We have solid marketing and a solid marketing strategy, but based on industry standards it’s a little bit like being the tallest midget.

A large part of me wonders if instead of marketing at all, we just took their salaries, the expenses to put on our yearly conference for clients and instead put that towards a c list celebrity or athlete endorsing us how much it would matter.

Yes. They constantly post unengaging content with low-res images and I've brought it up several times and it never changes.

Across 3 software vendors in my career, the marketing departments have been consistently useless. I work for a large market leader, have 1000 accounts, and could count on the fingers of one hand the number actionable inbound leads I've received this year.

The other week we all had to attend training to properly respond to inbound leads, even though 99% of them are support or billing issues.

However, it was a 6 figure deal at the end of the quarter. We were simply needing signatures from the customer but had different levels of review required, which is to be expected.

I'm not happy until I'm in your job, how did you get there and can you help me get there. They are either an advocate to grow you or you know they aren't your person.
