Don't take less than 70k

Posted a poll recently on base salaries and saw a lot of you have bases less than 70k...

I've been there, 1st gig was 45k as a AE selling a BS SaaS product (1.5 years), 2nd was 60k selling business internet (amazing experience, 1.5 years), 3rd gig was 67k for a start up (1 year). This was over a 4 year period... Also salary compression is real. Ignore anyone that talks about "JoB hoPpING". If it's a toxic workplace or shitty product then who cares - leave, go with your gut.

The reason I say this is THERES A LOT OF FUCKING MONEY OUT THERE. If you don't define your worth, someone else will. Go big or go home, do 100 interviews until you get a job that pays more.

Fuck the recruiter or manager that says you need more experience. Well maybe you do... but guess what, if you're passionate enough, do your diligence on the company applying for, etc... you'll eventually resonate with a manager that believes in you. So roll up your sleeves & apply for jobs like a fucking savage.

This is so true. I job hopped twice before getting to my current job where I’m making 60k base, 90k OTE as a BDR and I have about 8 months of sales experience.

@Fribbles I feel you dude. Like 2000% understand your philosophy. My base has increased 250% in less than 16 months. My OTE over 300%.

And when you land a high-base opp, it typically comes with a bunch of ancillary benefits that nobody ever told you about. People just treat you like you matter more.

Best part is that now, the sky is the limit. I won’t even talk to a recruiter for less than 160 anymore, and that’s not arrogance, it’s self-worth.

I can’t really resonate with this post, I’ve either had bases around $35k or no base at all. I’m not in tech sales…I’m 8 years into sales, always been top performer but haven’t cleared $80k total comp.

Truth! I have been told repeatedly I was not ready for the next step in sales career at my job (Very large Corporation). I kept pushing and worked my way up. Now I'm at the top(ish) of where I can go with a 70k base and I'm sick of playing the game! Seeing what others make elsewhere has me actively searching for something better. Sure, I'm the top performer on my team, but I can do better. So can you!

I started my first job as a BDM with a base salary of 66k and don't regret it. Obviously, you should always shoot for the moon and try to get the "best" offer, but early on, it's important to work somewhere where you can learn a lot and grow your network. Once you are good at what you are doing & have a solid network, opportunities and money will follow, especially in Sales. I have been in Sales for three years now and am making between 100 - 150k a year, after having had a below 70k jobs for two years - so take this 70k advice with a grain of salt.
