Jokes aside, I’m not going to throw the man under the bus just yet. There’s a guy commenting on Sahil’s post with solid logic - and he said, if this guy does get convicted then by all means crucify him, and I endorse that.
He’s an insufferable airbag, but when he started the 70K thing three millennia ago, it was a genuinely decent gesture for his employees, and I remember hearing it won him a lot of loyalty. It was also a pretty significant pay-bump back in the day. Today probably only slightly above average.
He ruined it by v-signalling it to death, but he and former employees claim it started in the right place. For that, he gets credit from me.
Apparently there’s some haze around how well-founded the allegations are, so speaking just for myself, I’m not going to be one of those who piles onto his misery until we know he’s guilty.
Yeah, he did the salary change after cutting his due to 2 things: 1. He took a huge sweep of all net income to freeze out investors (and his own brother) and was getting sued for it. 2. He picked a number that would effectively limit others returns and make him look like the good guy in court. So yeah, he was alway bad and this is not surprising.
This type of rationale is why people don't come forward when "beloved" figures are accused of this type of behavior. We refuse to believe that someone who is supposed to be one of the good guys could possibly behave in a way that directly contradicts their public persona. And our society still believes women are attention and money-seeking heathens who talk about being assaulted for sport.
Or.. like I said, we can wait to see if he’s convicted? I’m going with my choice, but you do you.
I should also mention, I posted this before seeing how much other shady history this particular dude has, so he probably is guilty, but in general I refuse to be part of that demographic that ruins lives based on allegations alone.
I have personally been held accountable for ‘crimes’ - let’s just say infractions, I didn’t commit, so I’ll let just the justice system reach a verdict first.
When a rich guy makes himself a public figure like he does it attracts certain people who may want to take advantage. That said, plenty of rich guys think they take extra liberties with women. I’m on the fence.
I remember the reason he lowered his salary was because his brother was suing him for taking an over $1M sweep of the net income and freezing investors out. So he was always like this.
Seattle local here. I’ve unfortunately heard several female colleagues who have crossed paths with him and have stories of misconduct. Nothing as bad as this story, but ass grabs in bars and such. 🙅🏼♂️🙅🏼♂️
