So... with the downvotes offline for the time being.

Just want to point out this post I made on my first day in the War Room. Made me really think twice about what is happening with the community itself.

How does this get fixed, clearly labeled "Off-topic" "Sales Humor", and yes, upvoted my own post to stop the bleed.

Since the downvote button isn't an I disagree button, why the disparity between engagement and post movement?

My opinion, based on what I have seen, is that regardless of the "off topic" and "humor" tags, posts that do not add any perceived value (not constructive or not asking a genuine question) and posts that are repeats of others/spam seem to get downvoted as a way of "public policing". Guessing that is what happened here, although why some get hit and others do not, who knows.

I know I have downvoted some posts in the past, and generally it was either due to insensitive content or it was a word for word repost of a different thread (in which case I try to link the master thread so they can collaborate there).

Which would be fine, if it was consistent.
This is why on Reddit, they have mods for each subreddit to set rules and police how the community decides.

Currently, we are in the wild west of the War Room/Bravado, there are kinks to iron out. I'm just glad that @sahil is an engaged leader who cares about fixing this.

Yup. I think War Room will get to that point eventually - especially after what happened over the weekend with the troll user mass downvoting posts.

We are our moderators. Its tough to see every single comment/post at the rate they are coming in these days.

We spent a good piece of today discussing remedies and systems to put in place. I wish change could happen over night but its crazy the engineering undertaking required to make even the smallest changes. Im pushing hard for some swift changes at the expense of some other development. Its all a matter of prioritization balancing.

Can you include some "decay" for stale polls? Stops people from going back in time and getting commish from polls 90+ days ago?

All good Corp, growing pains. Its great to see the platform taking off. We are the moderators and that's all good, It says it clear as day in the FAQs the downvote is not an "I disagree" button it is for flagging inappropriate actionable items. But sales people don't read fine print, we all know this.

Yes I think so too. But that's why the tags exist. I think people expect value from each post and miss the tags. Mix it up people! We need to have fun once in a while

How can you not think people are gaming the votes with the engagement like this. (As of this posting time) 31 Votes in the poll, 12 comments = ENGAGED audience; then you get 4 upvotes? To anyone new in the community how can you not assume there are games being played?

12 Healthy great comments on the pro's and con's of the topic, 31 votes in the poll, that's what ~50% engagement. Then 4 upvotes (which benefit the poster), it's a very "eff you, I got mine" mentality to take in for someone new.

There is definitely some of this going on but this is still early days of a relatively new platform. I get frustrated with this as well but I just try to keep in mind that the improvements so far are on point, feedback is being solicited and acted upon and, even at its current stage, the War Room as a whole is a net positive, in my opinion.

Sahil and Corp are on the ball. It’s only going to get better from here.

In the FAQ it says downvotes are not for disagreeing but for reporting inappropriate content to flag. But I don't think anyone knows that. Maybe if you downvkte you also get -1, that would make people at least think twice maybe?

I like it. Or add a dislike and leave downvote on the other side and label it as report inappropriate so common "misinterpretations" don't happen.

So... I was thinking. Posts/Polls are incentivized. Why aren't upvotes? (I understand the whole commish thing is to get engagement, but it's easily gamed by downvoting)

There is no easy solution to this. It changes the game to a massive upvote party if people get commish for upvotes... Then again another way to game it is set your whole team in the war room and have a giant marketing meeting (circle jerk). Only upvoting each other. This is some 51% blockchain shiz, call the sales engineers to fix/explain.
