Downvotes = Temporary ban/Suspension

This is inspired by Paddy's more recent "Best CRM???" post. So read that first for some context.

I've seen a few others as well complain about the random commish farming, lazy posting, and shit posting on here. Obviously, the value of this platform is content being relevant, intelligent, and thought-provoking... or at the very least funny.

My proposal is a such: Use downvoting to suspend users for offending us with their shitposts, lazy posts, and the like.

An example would be: Someone posts for 6th time "What CRM?"

Savages downvote this... because... (if I have to explain this, you are the problem)

10 downvotes=1 day suspension

50 downvotes=10 day suspension

You guys get the idea.

Thoughts? Improvements?

***EDIT***

Nobody would ever be permanently banned.

20 upvotes and 10 downvotes would be a net 10 upvotes, and that would not result in a suspension.

What would stop salty mfs from downvoting people they don't like just to get them kicked off?

I like the idea in principle but this comment from @funcoupons is what breaks it for me.

Facts! I think, a well done video explaining how they can search already existing threads will do the trick. Happened to me, once I learned, I validate before I get a "bright idea".ย ย

I should've clarified that it would need to be the total votes. So 10 upvotes and 3 down votes is a net 7 upvotes... So only a significant amount of downvotes would cause a suspension.

I think the only way to stop this is to have an WR officer or Non-Biased person review everything before issuing the suspension. It won't 100% guarantee that person won't be targeted but it does give them a last hope.ย

Yeah, that makes sense. Mostly just a half-baked idea to keep WR up to the standards we know and love!

That would be a great way to introduce popularity based booting of users, we would turn this into Lord of the Flies real fast. I donโ€™t think giving that power to the masses is a good idea.

Shitposting and commish farming should absolutely be dealt with. Out of curiosity though, how would we handle duplicate threads? Are we allowed to revive old threads? I've seen forums be against one or the other, and not I'm sure where the WR stands.ย

In general it is frowned upon, at least that is my understanding. I think reviving threads is reliant on upvoting and commenting to push content back up. I think tagging users is an easy to get it seen by the users you might want answers/comments from.

Completely agree with this idea. This is in essence why corp created the downvote, so we could remove trash content. I think the thresholds you set are also solid. If a post is so garbage you get 10 downvotes, you deserve a day away from posting.ย

Yep, that seems to be the consensus. Just a hair brained thought, that has been dissected by far superior minds than mine! Which is the point of WR, make us better salespeople, thinkers, leaders etc.

Instead of giving them a suspension being that makes someone say fuck this I am never coming back I would say after X downvotes then the admis take a look at the post and remove it if necessary.ย

Better idea! And potentially remove commish associated with that post? Or is that too harsh?

This in principle is good but don't forget when downvotes where stopped because people downvoted one another to win. So people can rally against someone just to put them out of the equation for a day...

i like the idea but there are some things to change, i think that downvoting could be a call to a moderator to check if the post was lazy af or just no reason downvote, after that it could be taken into consideration a suspension and if its recurrent a permanent banย

You kinda missed the point. It's not that it wasn't popular. It was hidden on purpose because it became a popularity contest. Obviously that isn't what Bravado wants.ย

Well that would work if downvotes were given to shitposts etc. But we need to be able to have discussions that can be heated as well. Unpopular opinions would lead to downvotes and bans. That should not be the case
