Early Retirement or Never Stop Working?

Do you have a goal to hit a certain amount of money so that you can retire and move to some sick, tropical beach town like Falmouth, Mass? Or a certain age where the only cold calls are for reserving tee times at an overpriced golf course even though you know you'll never break 100 in your life?

Or are you one of those sickos like Bill Belichick (๐Ÿ) who would go crazy if you didn't have a job to do every morning?

Which one are you?

If all goes to plan i would like to retire. My fear is that im not a tradesmen and my body may shut down from desk sitting for many years and by the time i want to use it, it will fail. I want to enjoy some retirement not be old and my arthritis in my knuckles hurts from counting the money i stored for nothing lol

Depending on a few factors, with the ageism that exists in many industries, you may find yourself into a kind of semi-retirement in your 50's not your 60s.

This has two important ramifications:

1) Your earning years may be 10 years fewer than planned
2) You be living on your savings 10 years sooner

So, as you calculate how much money you want by a certain age for when you retire, here's an important thought experiment:

1) examine what it takes to get to that same end number 10 years sooner
2) examine how much more you need to save if you need to add another 10 years of living on savings

100% I don't see many 60 year olds in SaaS.

But maybe they are all stuck selling Printers and Faxes?

The ageism is strong in SaaS.ย

An interesting statistic - not related to SaaS, but relevant.ย

From August 2020 to February 2021, 2.7 million people under age 55 found new jobs. In that same time period, only 28,000 people age 55+ found jobs.ย

Retirement doesnโ€™t have be about โ€œnot workingโ€. It can mean, โ€œI donโ€™t have to be cold calling until I die.โ€

I have a goal of teaching someday, but Iโ€™m worried I cant live the life I want on a teachers salary. If I donโ€™t need the money, salary is a moot point!

If I hit it big, I'm not working anymore. I'll go chase my passion so it won't be work, but I'll still be busy.ย

Now just to find the deal with the multi-million commission check...

I cannot wait to retire (early.) I'm secretly very sloth like, I only go hard because I have expensive taste in food and don't want to be homeless. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

I enjoy the sales process, i think i would miss connecting with people and helping them solve problems which is what sales is all about, not the calling prospects and "making" them customers

Would love to retire eventually, but also fear being bored to death. I also think I am too young to really grasp the concept of retiring...maybe my views will change but maybe I will have my clients get back to me using a Ouija board

Unfortunately living only gets more expensiveโ€ฆ Iโ€™d love to retire yesterday, canโ€™t really do that so the only option is to keep working. Grind now and hopefully it pays off in a few yearsย

Woke up early. Worked out. Showered and lost all motivation for the morning. Anyone have energy to share to get me moving today?
