Early Risers - How do you not snooze?

As the title says - Do you have any tricks for staying consistent and actually staying awake?

I typically am an early riser and have been good about it, but recently I got out of it and I found I can't wake up without snoozing until my workday actually starts (this goes on for an hour/hour and a half...). I have a routine I prioritize for my mental health and then make breakfast, so this cuts well into my morning at work - which is fine because I'm working remote and it's a slower time of year, but of course I want to get out of this habit so I can optimize my work mornings to be a top performer coming into Q1.

I'd be curious to hear other sales peoples' personal anecdotes. I've heard things about alarms that make you do tasks to turn them off (I forget the name - if anyone knows comment it!).

What're your best practices?

It’s easy, I have two kids, at least one of them screams me awake and I have no choice but to wake up and be alive. Could you get kids? :-)

LOL.

Cats also work well, though they can and will disregard regular hours if they feel like waking you up in the middle of the night.  However, if they get fed in the morning at your wake up time, they will utterly drive you nuts until you get up and feed them.

Yep, if you can invest in a few kids you will wake up early no problem at all.

It's all about creating a repeatable rhythm for sleep. It takes 2-3 weeks to cement one, but if you get in bed at the same time every night, and set your alarm for the same time every morning, you will have no trouble getting out of bed at the ass crack of dawn.

As @braintank suggested, I put my phone in the other room, and I use my Apple Watch as my alarm. I set it to "no snooze" and I only have one alarm set with no snooze. When you give your brain and body options to snooze then you will always end up sleeping later.

I assume you're waking up via phone alarm and said phone is within arms reach of your bed.

Simple fix -- move you phone to the other side of the room.

I actually already do this one - I've been getting up, snoozing for 15 mins and crawling back into bed :(

for me, you just gotta get vertical. Once I am up and out of my bed its easy to move on. One alarm. No snooze. Across the room.

I have a smart light in my bedside lamp and it turns on a few minutes before my alarm goes off and ramps up the brightness to coincide with my alarm. It has made a huge difference in my ability to wake up without snoozing.

I never got in the temptation of using the snooze button, which means I get up when the alarm goes off, no exceptions.   I am assuming you have the habit of hitting the snooze button?  Time to go cold turkey!

Also, this is a tough time of year.  It feels like things are winding down, so it's very hard to stay motivated.   I use this time of year to slow down a bit myself, but make sure everything is up to date and I'm queued up for success next FY.

Dont take any offense to this please, but… GET UP. Alarm goes off, get up its time. I look at it like anything else that just has to be done. If rent is due on the first I pay on the first. If my flight departs at 3pm then im on it before 3pm. Also, my gym is packed by 6 or 7am so unless I want to workout for 2 hours waiting on everything I get thete early. And if I dont workout my day is 70% less productive. Ive never had a problem with self control though, so it’s easy for me to do. Try thinking of it like a deadline, and its just your responsibility to do it.

I am naturally an early riser so maybe I am not the best person to give advice.

but if you save a task or something that you LIKE to do, for the morning then that could help.

it can be simple things but if you tell your self you will do it first thing in the morning than you have a little extra motivation.

I have a very hard time with this as well. I have a daily standup at 8:30 that I literally wakeup at 8:29 for, login on my phone... and then at 8:45 when it ends I snooze for 30-45 minutes. My excuse is, I'm mostly inbound and the phones NEVER ring before 12. So I know I'm not missing any leads. But it causes me to have to work later.

1. Make a hard rule of only one snooze and then wake up

2. Find something that is motivating to get out of bed so you don't snooze. For me, it's getting shredded and summer bod hot so I am at the gym by 6:10 every day (**Side note I NEVER thought I'd be an early gym goer but for the last year I have been and now I feel bad if skip an early workout...it's worth it. I set my clothes out the night before and go immediately)

3. If you're snoozing, you probably aren't getting enough sleep. Start going to bed 15 minutes earlier than normal one week, then 30 minutes earlier for a week or two...you get the idea. Going to bed around the same time every night during the week is pivotal to success in the morning.

4. Change your mindset! Mornings are DOPE. I don't look at my phone for around 3 hours after waking up so it's my own time to do whatever the f I want for myself (gym, meditate, coffee in bed, etc)

Get yourself a pet snake. You'll wake up by it trying to eat you man. Gets me up and going every morning.

*wink wink*

I have a hard time getting up in morning as well. I have like 9 alarms or so. Does not matter if i sleep 5 or 9 hours. I find it hard getting up every morning - but once im up and going i motivated as fuck.

control your nights to control your mornings.

also, reading before bed knocks me out. Don't read something that takes effort. The trashier the better

Put your alarm far enough away that you have to get out of bed.  Once you're out, just go down stairs and start your day.
