Easiest Job offers ever! But what's the catch?! Wild times over here!

I just received 2 official offers, wildly fast. The base money is about the same: 65k They are both at start ups.

Here is where it gets different:

Company A: Series B start up, just raised 21M

Role SDR, and close small deals

Variable 10k Capped, they are vague about this

Experienced leaders who have built and sold a startup for 100Mil+

Solid product, huge potential money to be made

Company B

Pre-Seed funding, no stats public,

Role AE

Variable Uncapped, 10%-20% of deals, acv I was told is in the thousands

Newer leaders,

My take, company A is better, but it is not a step up role wise. Company B gets me AE experience, but less stable company, and less chance it takes off.

Should I be a an SDR at a better company? OR an AE at a newer company, with less structure or guidence, but uncapped comms and full closing experience?

Also I have been getting a steady stream of recruiter emails, just one from a big name HRMS company. AE 80k base. SO...this shit is wild. If you aren't looking now start taking calls if you are at all considering a move.

The market for talent is super hot right now. Take advantage.

The second opportunity sounds better to me because I don't take roles with capped commission/earnings. Also, it's a promotion in title.

My regional dialect at times sounds like zoolander, I wish I could up vote this a few times.

My thoughts exactly. It definitely depends on what you want out of your career, but I made a sort-of-similar move with a promotion in title at a startup for a noticeable paycut, and I couldn't be happier with my decision.

I also got SUPER lucky in that this startup turned out even better than I expected going in, but from my personal experience I would go for AE with no cap on your earnings 100% of the time.

Yup its crazytown out there right now.  I was on a 75/70ish plan this January.  Left for a 110/110 one, and am leaving again for a 125/125 one.  I have 15 years of experience and am doing Enterprise sales, but there is more money than that out there.

I'm experiencing a similar boost in pay and title. If you're even above average in your sales role, it is a VERY lucrative time to change jobs.

Talk about imposter syndrome...I feel like I definitely don't deserve this level of money as an individual contributor.

Do you want to take an AE role or SDR?  If AE and don't want to join the #2, and you're not desperate to leave your existing company, you can wait for more opportunities.

For me, I would always take an AE.

That is where I am leaning, company B just made their formal offer also, 10% on deals, starting. AVC is all over the place.

They're giving you 2.5% of the company buy paying you $65k? That sounds a bit off.

Yea, it was a bit off. Strike a 0. So 25,000 shares. Bumped it to 30k.

I am expecting some of that. I am a weirdo in that I love change, and new things. I hate stuffy old boring products and processes. It is a bit of a risk. But since the base pay is 20k Higher than my current job and its a good way to get that "AE" title. The risk is not bad for me at all.

Perhaps. Or you find yourself in a toxic environment with leaders who don't know what they're doing. Not trying to be a downer but make sure you do a lot of diligence on any early startup. What is ARR, how much is it increasing YoY, what is churn, what is their GTM strategy, etc.

Company B. No cap and get the experience in the AE title and use that to springboard to something better if company B doesn’t happen to work after a while.

Option B if you are insistent on making a change now. Variable 10k capped is terrible and you’re still stuck in an SDR role. I would see if you can grab one more offer to balance this out given the risk you referred to with Option B (although high risk can equal high reward in long run)
