Easy interview process, high base for AE role, been unemployed for 2 mos. Take it?

I have had a rough go at unemployment (laid off back in March) where I went final rounds with three of my dream companies and in the final round, lost out. One was pretty close and they were going to go with me but said they had 3 more interviews to go through in order to do their due diligence. One candidate wowed them and they went with her.

So I am practically burning through savings at this time. Then a recruiter reaches out to me about a role at a Startup HQ'd in India. No role play, just three rounds with the founder, CEO, and head of HR. Basically, they said they liked that I spent 3 years at a company that is a leader in the space they are selling into.

The base is higher than I have ever had for an AE role. When I read the Glassdoor reviews, they were meh, with some claiming that the company made up customer stories on their page!

I am at a point where I am thinking how this may impact me long-term. Ideally, I want to work for the big boys in SaaS but right now the market is so tough.

Do I just take this role and see where it goes at this point?

Hehehehehe, love the Bitcoin reference, it's making a comeback!

I feel like I am missing a reference here though when you say take it on the run, like I should know this.

Not really- just pay your bills. Income over no income. Take gig, keep looking. A shitstart company in place of a gap won’t hurt you at all. I’m currently in that boat.

Trust your talent and keep your coins. It’ll feel like you got derailed. And you did. Many of us did. But the little company is an opportunity and you may even love it.

None of this shit defines you permanently.

Meh won't bite you as much as unpaid bills will. Keep your lights on, take the offer, and keep looking. Maybe that company that was juuuuust about to go with you comes back when someone else leaves and you're first on their list.

I admire your perseverance and congratulations on getting something lined up.

I don't think it hurts to live off of the high base while you look for something else.

Desperate times, as they say.

There's literally no harm in taking this opportunity up! You will have your savings in place, for some more time, and also get your mind peacefully at place.
You can make this your stop gap solution while a better opp comes by!

It’s a no brainer - take what’s in, get the $ rolling in your account. In the interim 1/ you might find your dream company 2/ you might liking meh and decide to roar there

Put that food on the table son, take care of you first. Especially in this market, people will understand. And who knows perhaps it works out long term? And if not, at least your bills are getting paid.

Sounds like it might be worth the risk... if it doesn't work out, try and call it quickly, then make sure that your resume controls the narrative e.g. don't try and hide a short move/mistake!

Why wouldn't you take it?

If you know how to sell, you know how to sell.

Can I ask what the base offered is?

Should I take a higher paying SDR role that beats the AE OTE of my current company, or get promoted to AE for the experience

What’s the best companies to reach out to for SDR / BDR roles for a career changer looking for solid base comp and decent OTE (financial advisor made 120k last year 3 years hit quota every year cold calling running the sales process so I think I have relevant AE skills but I get taking a step down since I have no SAAS sales skills. (However I have 1.5 years of IT recruiting experience where I also crushed quota and learned a bit about IT broadly) Thanks
