Email templates, hate em' or love em?

Let's talk about email templates. I personally hate them, and think that they are more of a Marketing thing than a Sales thing... First off, how many emails that are obvious templates do YOU PERSONALLY open on your phone? Probably close to zero. Secondly, it doesn't actually take that long to write a personal email to someone that is 100% personalized. and Finally, (and perhaps most importantly) your goal should be to get this person on the phone or screen, period, so your message should be short and to the point anyway... (no need for value prop, just get the meeting)

Thoughts on templating emails in sales? Do you hate em? Love em? whatchyou got?

I prefer email frameworks that I can copy/paste and add personalized information where needed. Saves time on typing out the same stuff I'd include in every email but doesn't come across as robotic.

I second that.ย

Also, if there's ever a new template you come across you can always A/B test them

Yes. I like frameworks. Perfect word for it. I have a few that i cycle through depending on thr prospect, the messaging etc and customize each time but the framework is built.

Take a few juicy nuggets from the template to make bullet points and personalize the rest.

Call me old(school), but templates are my jam. Like @funcouponsย said, they can be set up as a framework for you to add some personalization to. I personally have my teams using sequences via HubSpot, but we employ personalization tactics throughout the sequence to remove that robotic tone.

When done correctly, templates do not appear as a template... just like your sales script does not sound like a sales script!

You can only use templates if you're bucketing your cadences into several very specific segments. Like people who are attending event x, people who are using a specific competitor, people who liked a specific post on linkedin, etc.

Having the framework/template and then personalizing it makes the prospecting and hunting part a lot easier than having to come up with new stuff each time. Iโ€™m a fan but you still need to do the work in personalizing itย
