Employee Data Rights

something I don't think many employees or ex-employees think about is submitting a data subject request to their employers. it's technically not required today, but can be enforced July 1, 2023. some companies are not obligated to disclose, but could turn into a PR nightmare if they don't respect privacy of data, which is a hot topic nowadays.

that being said, even if you don't live in CA, CPRA will give data rights (access, deletion, and correction) starting July 1 for any companies based in California TO employees - no matter their state of residency.

should help with transparency as a whole?

Somebody will sue, even possibly a nobody. Maybe a few somebodies too. Some of the other somebodies will settle. Then, we’ll see change for all of the everybodies. Most, anyway. Change. How it rolls.

That's a good thing to come out of CA, as is the ability to easily cancel subscriptions (which had been a freaking nightmare).

Damn that's great.
Makes sense as same as they need us to respect their data and signed us an NDA, in return they have to respect our data rights too, so I guess they need to sign us back here:)

100%! You can typically find the access form in the teeny tiny privacy policy link at the bottom of the page (as soon as you click ok on the cookie banner, lol)

I’m sure this will get spicy legally on where the line is between my data and the companies, should be fun to watch play out lol
