Entrepreneurial projects and career breaks

so you get a candidate who has a break in his/her career. Every few years he/she has been off doing a passion project and trying to build a small business ( small app, food mart, flower shop ) but failed and got back looking for work.

10 on 10 on communication clarity
10 on 10 on role fit and attitude.
3 on 10 on team fit ( no one in the team has such profile and team filled with long timers large corp type people)

how would you read this as a hiring manager focussing on building team of good corporate citizens being a good corporate citizen with no entrepreneurial background (but sure understands the business needs).

would you bet on this candidate when there is also an internal candidates ( Know it all) and why?

Don't confuse team fit with hiring the same people. You need diversity for different perspectives. If you keep hiring clones you end up with an echo chamber which lacks innovation. Team fit IMO is more about whether the team will like them rather than having the same background.

As for the internal candidate, only you will know who's a better choice there. The internal candidate should be given a few bonus points, but it's hard to beat a 10.

the team does not need homogenity. They need to learn from eachother. different backgrounds is a better fit to learn.

so if I wanted to find ppl that could be successful then yes I would seriously consider them for the role.

if im just looking to find a person that is just like everyone else on the team, then no I would not hire them. I would also want to know why you want to hire "good corporate citizens"?

Nothing wrong with this at all. Sounds like they'll bring a fresh perspective and drive

Especially the drive. Which could bring loyalty.

Absolutely brings in a new perspective, if they have the experience and skills to do well I would offer.

It’s unreasonable to think annoy you are interviewing will retire at the same company, curious how long would the person need to stay for it to be a success given he/she does well in the role?

I would entrepreneurs over “good corporate citizens” every day and twice on Sundays.

Hire them, Let's just say they work out, you added value. If they don't work out, they brought those 10/10s with them and you learned something.. win/win
