Etiquette on Job Offer Decision Time / Exploding Offers?

How long have y'all typically gotten to respond to a job offer?

I'm currently interviewing for a role, and I have my final round interview coming up. The recruiter warned me that if I get an offer, they expect a decision within 24 hours, or it'll be withdrawn.

I find this super unprofessional and shitty. Their reasoning is "we want people who really want to be here..." But I'm interviewing with other companies. I feel like this policy creates a situation where I'm incentivized to say yes to the offer - then bail if something better comes up. Which is shitty and unprofessional of me, but they're putting me in a corner.

What do y'all think? I feel like asking for a week or so to accept/decline an offer is reasonable. Anyone ever gotten an exploding offer?

I get where they are coming from but 24 hours isnโ€™t long at all.ย

do they know youโ€™re in another process? If so, I donโ€™t think itโ€™s out of order to ask for that to be completed before making a decisionย

They don't, but I guess I'll mention that. Tricky biz you know? Don't want to seem disinterested.ย

Just say out of respect for the other organizations you want to see them through and not just bail, but tell the company that offered you, they are your first choice. If a company said they only are giving me 24 hours to decide the next move in my career I would probably let them revoke the offer bc that is a terrible policy IMO. Unless it was a dream company or amazing offer.

48 hours is what I have typically have dealt with. A week is far too long, even for an exec role. You either want the job, or you're using it to sell yourself for more money at your current job (don't) or to drive up your value to another spot you're interviewing at.

Thatโ€™s bullshit and they know it. Just another strong arm tactic. But you know what, if you really like the offer you can take it. And if you get a better one, take that. This company already sounds like trash.

or.

tell the recruiter This interview process took X amount of time, and you donโ€™t want to work with a company that isnโ€™t serious about making good decisions.
