Ever been asked to show a W2? What would you do?

A few years ago a couple companies I was interested in stated in their job posting that you need to provide a w2...

This of course is insane and I never applied.

Mainly because I knew I was going to have to lie about my quota and OTE to get out of the shit hole I was in at the time.

Curious, has anyone here ACTUALLY provided a W2?

Or been told they need to? Did it actually happen?

Are these companies even real?

I never share my current income. If cornered I tell them I signed a non-disclosure agreement.

But I do share the compensation I am targeting. If they balk at that, we don’t move forward.

oooo I love that move! ive always wondered the best way to actually answer the "what do you currently make" question.....and that is a great response!

I would never show them anything about my comp. My previous comp has nothing to do with them

I’d tell them to show me a W2 of their “average” rep to validate their BS OTE claims before I show them a thing.

I did that during a hiring cycle last year. Stopped the recruiter cold. We... agreed not to move forward.

This sounds like the scenario where the company wanted the posters last check for verification.

I've never been asked it, but I've seen it talked about here, so it must exist somewhere.   This is for AE roles?

I have provided a w2 for “employment verification” but I’m sure it was also for calculating my OTE.

Yah, you shouldn’t have done that. Or you should have redacted your comp

Any employer that does is likely not going to get talent to apply…

if they told me I needed to show them my current w2 I'd tell them to lick my taint and not to call me again. That is a ridiculous requirement and has nothing to do with my ability to do the job I'm being interviewed for. The only reason they want it is to see if they can lowball you and you still accept the offer.

Got asked for my W2 at my last interview, told them it was illegal in the state of california to ask, that shut them up.

It was a chinese company with a small US team so I guess they were used to asking for that.  I just told them it's illegal to ask about ANY past salary, so they just stopped asking.  I ended up getting the job offer but turned it down since I didn't want to work 996.

Check state law in the state of the company's principle place of business. Does not pertain your state of residence. More states are joining this trend.

Some recruiters have asked me for this. Mark DeChant did a few years back. Told him to go blow himself.
It’s a good way to weed out the bs. But now that I make great money I’m not afraid to show a W2. It only challenges them to make sure they’re ready to pay that much. Turn it around in them.

Lmao they can fuck all the way off if they ask to see my W2.

I would stop the conversation unless they wanted to show me their middle and top highest rep's W2

How can someone “be the problem” in a situation they didn’t interact with? What a hilariously shitty response.
