Ever had success with video prospecting?

I sent one and watched it back, it made my fucking skin crawl. I felt perverse. They didn't respond either. Yes, for a true test, I should've done more, of course. But some things I just don't need to test. Like being pegged. Which is why I'm asking you lot.

We have BDRs in the States that use it quite well, but I feel in EMEA, anecdotally, it just doesn't translate well.

That said, more than happy to give it another go if people *have* had success with it in EMEA!

I’ve heard some of my colleagues have some success with it but have never myself. Good chance I didn’t get it a long enough of a try. Definitely has to include heavy personalization + relevance, bc if it’s essentially a general cold email read out loud it’ll garner similar results.

Tried it like 6 years ago in EdTech, didn't yield much for any of the team. And you'd think those in educators would be more open than most to video content.

I have done vidyard a few times in EMEA and had a few colleagues had success with it. So it works but you need to personalise it a lot. Maybe not necessarily as BDR and not as a first touch either. More so instead of writing them an email, just send a video instead. Or instead explaining a product etc via emai. Screen record and explain. Or hey I have just set you up with AE, they will cover this and this. It would help if you could provide them replies to x and x. Some of my colleagues did little customer specific rap songs etc. It was epic. I would keep at it and try and incorporate it but make it good enough so it does not make your skin crawl

Yeah I do it occasionally as AE as well. But I would not do like a cold call format in a video... that would make me cringe. But I guess there are a lot ways to do it... Just sets you apart a bit and you can always pick the best one and ask your manager for feedback etc.

It works but the conditions need to be right. Has to be hyper personalized and short. Anything longer than 30 seconds to 1 minute isn’t being viewed. In fact keeping it to 30 seconds is key.

You need to send a gif in the email with you and maybe their website in the gif too. They immediately need to know it’s for them without needing to read the email - which should also be short.

Basically it works later in the prospecting funnel when you want to show someone you’re a real person reaching out with a personalized solution. I’ve seen it work first hand but it’s not a silver bullet some sales leaders will tell you it is.

I think video is great under these circumstances:
1) very personalized
2) never used as a first step, but rather a 3rd or 4th where value has been delivered via an email
3) has to have good content and keep it short

I think Video got a good rep because Sales2Sales folk pushed it a lot and it’s worked. When selling to anyone outside of Sales2Sales, it’s harder

I’m beginning with video outreach in EMEA, just with recording and sending directly via linkedin messaging. While I’ve only sent only 10 vids so far and cant evaluate if it’s worth it, one thing’s for sure - it’s really time consuming.

Vids need to be short, tight, and visually interesting (product demo vs static face just talking).

But it lowers your status quite a bit and can come across as you being too accessible, so it’s probably best to make BDRs do it.

I had this convo today with my Head of Growth. He asked the same question.

I stress to all salespeople that your job is to add value. To every interaction. If you can use that video to add value, go for it. But if it’s just you holding up a notepad with my name and one fact from my LinkedIn profile… there’s no value in that, AND at this point you’re not even going to rise above the noise of their inbox bc they’ve all seen it before.
