Experience in startup sales?

I’m looking to leave my current organization (2,000 FTE), I’ve always wanted to work for a start up and I love the idea of more autonomy. Does anyone have experience in the pre Series A environment they’d be willing to share?

Upvoting and monitoring your post because I just started at a new company today, basically a start up, as the only sales person. So let's get some answers together lol.

You're me, lol. I've been the only sales person at a pre series A start up for the last year or so. There's a lot of freedom to do things your way and it's definitely important to align with the founders.

Between our similar situation and my love of your username I'll be happy to share my wins and losses with you so we can save each other some pain and maybe put the pedal down to the promise land.

I've been working with and for Pre Series A startups for the past 5 years as a Sales Dev Consultant. Building outsourced SDR teams for companies with an MVP ready to test it on the market.

The best part about Pre Series A is you can do whatever you want, multiple roles, everyday is different.

The worst part is you are needed (not required) at least 60 hours per week.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
The change is going to be vast. And you better pick the right founder(s) because that role can make your life absolute hell.

Yeah I moved from a 3rd party logistics firm with thousands of employees to a pre series A startup. Biggest culture shock for me was with the amount of changes... there are constant pivots with defining ICP, outreach strategies, messaging, product updates, etc. and oftentimes they won't make sense to you. The best thing you can do is roll with the punches, be open to trying new things, and be okay with trying new things and potentially failing. Especially with pre series A you are hearing these changes from the leadership team and nobody wants to listen to a complainer.

Now at series c, changes still come quite often, but it feels good to be in at the ground floor with a major stake in the company!

Startups offer a great learning experience. You learn a lot about every aspect of the company. It's very dynamic, so you must be able to change and adjust.

Prepare to work longer hours. I think it is more satisfying work but it's an absolute grind.

don't believe a damn thing they tell you about OTE.   They have no idea.  Also,  the market can pivot on a dime and leave your company in the dust.  At least that was my experience.   I prefer working for larger companies but the tradeoff is less equity.   Choose wisely

what is a pre-series A? I left a big corporate job to join a startup a few months ago and this world is a whole new beast. yes to autonomy and flexibility to make quick decisions. ouch to building processes as you go along...difficulty balancing account management/onboarding while trying to keep that pipeline movin'

Upvoting here as I've just had my first day at a startup as the only person in sales.

Really depends on which you're going to, because you can never really tell 100% what's going to happen when you make it across the threshold into the field.
