Failed sales folks get into recruiting?

heard this disturbing comment from a co worker "Failed sales folks get into recruiting"

how true?

the sound of it may seem offensive- but I wanted to put it as I heard.

wearing your "cool mind" hat, how would you see it?

my perspective: the highest cost to any company is "people" cost, people trading on these costs have to be the smartest sales people in the org.

no?

I've never heard this statement. Aren't recruiters technically sales folks?

I think it's the other way round.

Like we hire a lot of SDRs who're ex recruitment interns.

I have seen this happen a lot. It’s a lot easier to sell someone a pipe dream for a career than to sell someone something for their business. One is looking and coming to you, the other might be looking or not at all.

I don't think it's really true. Many make the move, but you can't really know their motivations.

There are some really good recruiters out there, and some really bad ones. Same as sales.

Some people are just better suited to, or prefer, certain types of sales. And recruiters definitely do sales.

I have lots of recruiter friends making nice bank. They don't like to think of themselves as salespeople (though they totally are), I think it's a sales position like any other, but if you're a failed sales rep I don't know why you would think recruiting would be any easier. That's actually two sales, you need to sell the prospect on the recruit and the recruit on the prospect, seems like more work to me.

Big question on the move if you work for a staffing company or recruiter for a company

I have seen it happen a decent amount go to staffing, I feel like recruiting is just like sales with a short selling cycle 1-2 weeks. Just a constant grind, but get to say your are helping people.
