Failing UP

Read a great article on the Art of Failing Up. We've all worked with someone(s) who have a big title, paycheck, etc. and after meeting them you are left with "htf did that guy get that job?!" or "how does he keep his job?!". I know I have been there.

I have been in two companies where they fired the Boss and a couple months later that person has an equal or, in one of the cases, a better job. For one of them, it literally took everyone on the team complaining to the VP or get them fired (finally).

Makes me wonder about the dirt these people have on others in order to get the job in the first place. Did they luck into a good year and parlay that into something bigger/better?

Have you "failed up"? If so, share your secrets!

You need to make a post detailing your AWS interviews when it's over.

pretty cool =)
Although i don't know if that qualifies as failing up, yet.  I think you just evolved to know you can do more and make more $$.

It is not failure if you learn... possibly an expensive lesson, but not failure.

I agree but the point of the article is “how do people who are obviously inept keep rising in organizations?”
