Fast layoff

Not sure if y'all heard about this one but Fast (headless checkout) laid off about 100 people. That sucks but is nothing unusual. But...THEY FUCKING FIRED PEOPLE THEY HAD AT SHOPTALK IN VEGAS. They cancelled the corporate credit cards that belonged to the folks they were there. I'm not sure if this was true but there was a stat that they were only bringing in $1200 in revenue per employee. (If that is true, further evidence that most VCs have no idea what they're doing but just crushed the birth lottery).

There are also rumors that their main competitor, Bolt, is fucking up as well and may follow suit. Be careful out there.

Can you imagine being out of town for work and being stranded? Hopefully those folks had a personal credit card to get home.

That's such a garbage move as the company. Like sure if you fucked yourself and have to lay people off then you suck and do it. But don't fuck the people who are currently traveling for you.

Seriously, and you didn't know who you were laying off before you had them travel for you??

I remember working at one company that laid off an SE a few days into his vacation in Europe. Maybe tell me a week or so earlier and he could have spent time looking for a job vs shelling out a few grand to travel and not knowing where his next check was coming from.

Unsurprising. Domm has a track record of shady ass behavior. He ran a towing marketplace into the ground, then changed his name and moved to US.

That is truly pathetic.  I can only reason that they didn't want someone getting fired and then going on a shopping spree.  I hope they cover the travel expenses for those people to get home.

Call me what you want, just sign the damn contract
These companies see hiring as a status symbol instead of important logistical needs.

"Over the course of three weeks, NPR asked repeatedly for an interview with Holland and for on-the-record responses to questions about his past and Fast's business. All were denied. On Tuesday, Fast Chief Communications Officer Jason Alderman sent NPR a minute-long audio recording of a prepared statement."

Some of these companies... I don't know what they are doing. I'm having a bunch of CX companies right now reaching out to me, and their "strategic" deals aren't bigger than $10K-$15k. Meanwhile they are spending money like it's going out of style. I don't seem to be doing anything to expand their product portfolio, so they can actually make money beyond these teenie tiny deals to large multi-nationals.

Further to VC's knowing/not knowing what they are doing, I used to wonder about that until I considered the business model of VC's and other early investors. They aren't just getting paid on the exit, they charge management fees as well. As such, they need companies that are at least a little messed up and don't know what they are doing. A company that knows how to execute and understands their financials doesn't have to give up equity.
