FAVORITISM: How many of you have managers or sales ops that show an insane amount of favoritism? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™ƒ

Anybody else feel like the loner on your sales team? For context, thereโ€™s 7 of us on the sales team. 5 reps live in Cali & worked in office together before COVID. And then 1 rep lives in Texas, which is where all the VPโ€™s live. And then thereโ€™s me whoโ€™s in Utah.

Me & my guy down in Texas started together & are the newest guys. We always joke that weโ€™re not part of the Cali-Click. Weโ€™ve seen sales reps quadruple their numbers in less then a month. And itโ€™s 1000% because they were given accounts. We can see all of it in Salesforce. Me & him are legit the only ones who actually do the work & have to completely prospect and close deals on our own. I donโ€™t care that they were given them. Itโ€™s just hilarious when management talks about prospecting and getting new business, because thereโ€™s only 2 of us who actually do it. LOL Or when they tell us that we could be at their level if we work harder and close more. ๐Ÿ˜‚ I just wanna know if anybody else deals with that too? ๐Ÿ˜

This is pretty messed up. Time to leave for sure (if you're not hitting your number that is)ย

I give accounts to the person that I think will close it. That being said if you are just as good as everyone else on your team this is not okay.ย

Which is totally understandable. I donโ€™t want to sound cocky, but I am damn good at my job. And I work harder then anybody else.ย

Utah's the shit though. Lots of job openings and opportunities, because it sounds like you should leave.ย

That's extremely problematic and frustrating.

My office is very small (7 of us), and three of us sit at 1 pod with the other 4 are at another, including my manager. We're somewhat separated by our kitchen/break room so there's not clear across-the-room communication. As my manager gets exclusive leads (both candidates and/or positions), he'll often just say it out loud to his pod before sending it in an email to the office. Sometimes he'll get sidetracked, understandably, and won't email the leadsย for awhileย after already telling his pod. Often times we're left slightly farther behind simply because of the layout of our office. Small issue, but an annoyance nonetheless. I also think there's some favoritism involved but not anywhere near the extent of your situation.

Oh man, that sounds rough though too. I have a hard time holding my tongue or controlling my facial expressions when Iโ€™m annoyed Lol ๐Ÿ˜‚ so I wouldnโ€™t work well in that.ย

Itโ€™s definitely annoying thatโ€™s for sure. Itโ€™s sucks because I lost 20 of my most profitable accounts this month, at no fault of my own. Iโ€™m in the Vape/smoke industry and itโ€™s heavily regulated. And my accounts are now states that have flavor bans. Iโ€™ve been here 8 months and worked my ass off to build my book up. And we have a draw of $20k profit before we commission out. So itโ€™s a bummer that instead of helping me out with even just ONE account. But I just get told to prospect more LOL ๐Ÿ˜‚ but ehh, is all good. Back to the grind ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

As long as there are humans running sales teams this is going to be part of the game. Unfortunate as it may be. Just focus on your game, and youโ€™ll end up aight.ย

Oh for sure. Itโ€™s happened every place that Iโ€™ve worked. But Iโ€™ve never been on a team with people who think theyโ€™re Godโ€™s gift to sales. When itโ€™s so blatantly obvious that they were given the accounts. ๐Ÿ˜‚ but Iโ€™m a hard worker and donโ€™t mind the grind. Iโ€™ve built my entire book all on my own. But I think itโ€™s hilarious how arrogant and cocky some of these people are. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Iโ€™m not even that mad about it ๐Ÿ™‚

Most folks who are getting shit handed to them are blind to it, either because they don't want to see it -- or because they can't get past their own ego.ย  Eventually these folks report into an actual leader, who will expect them to do actual work - and it usually cuts them like a buzzsaw.ย

Thereโ€™s always a certain degree of favoritism. I think itโ€™s a natural and human reaction that leadership needs to make a conscious effort to avoid committing.

Easier said than done which is why I think it all boils down to the degree with which favoritism regularly occurs.

Your situation @tanmocha_ sounds like BS. Such a blatant double standard.

Oh of course! I agree with that for sure. I actually never cared until I lost half my book of business due to new laws & regulations. Now Iโ€™m wishing theyโ€™d
throw me a bone. ๐Ÿ˜… just to help keep me afloat while I rebuild. I exceeded last months sales quotaย

ย y $20k and have hit quota every month for the last 8 months. So I feel like Iโ€™ve earned my place. She says she bases it off of performance and seniority, which makes no sense. Iโ€™m the newest rep, the rest of the team had been there for 1+Years. LOLย

I had that for another place I worked except it was the office manager... The fucking office manager taking all the accounts. CEO did nothing but congratulate her and then told us to hit our numbers. Keep your options open and keep working hard, if you get tired of it then go somewhere else.ย

Ugh thatโ€™s awful! ๐Ÿ˜… people are fucking selfish man. ย But totally agree. Iโ€™ve never been afraid to quit a job and get a new one, I know I could find a new one if I need to. But I love my industry & Iโ€™m damn good at it. I might not be the top, but itโ€™s hard to compete against order takers LOL ๐Ÿ˜ my petty ass doesnโ€™t want to quit because I donโ€™t want and anybody else to get my accounts lmfao ๐Ÿคฃย

We had a guy on our sales floor who was straight up doing and selling drugs but hit or exceeded his quota all the time. Managers knew about drug activity but did nothing. It wasn't until he was caught in the parking lot doing a deal by cops that he was let go. It was such bullshit and so toxic to the floor.ย  Look for another job.ย

No way!! Thatโ€™s insane!! I keep thinking about leaving. But part of me doesnโ€™t want my accounts going to someone else ๐Ÿ˜‚ I landed another huge account this month. That I worked super hard on. And if makes me fuming mad thinking someone else would benefit from my hard work LOL I know thatโ€™s petty AF lolย

That sucks you have to experience this, but sounds like great ammunition for when you get an interview somewhere else. "Yea I was one of two reps out of 7 that actually generated business with cold outreach"
